sorry for all caps but I have built two teams, my exploring team to get new gear, and my farming team for resorces. My problem though is if I close and lock my towns gate two of my adventurers will start to walk to it. I would leave the gate open but Ive been attacked by 3 entire bands of bandits 4 times now with in 2 in game days
I need the gate lock but I also need new stuff for my town. What do you think?
WHY DO YOU LOVE THE DOOR MORE THEN ME
This is currently a bug with the pathfinding (issues). And should be fixed once the new pathfinding engine (havok engine) has been implemented (and is supposed to minimalise the memory leak).
The only way you can at the moment do this is build a defence gate in a mountain (or something like that) so you can open that gate but no people can enter it.
But as said before the best way is to wait for the new engine to be implemented or expand the walls of your base so much that people in your base won't get aggro by groups of bandits and leave a certain number of people next to the opened gate (with one with taunt if that works properly for you) so your gate guards will be targetted and slay everyone that enters.

The best way to get people to stop trying to open gates is to use the in-game path rebuilder (Ctrl+shift+F11) with all of your gates open. You might have to do this a couple times. Once it has finished rebuilding the paths, be sure to save your game.
I was always confused by this, as no one seems to ever explain it beyond "Build another gate"....Starke wrote: The only way you can at the moment do this is build a defence gate in a mountain (or something like that) so you can open that gate but no people can enter it.
So what is the reasoning behind doing this? Must-Open-Gate bait ?
I suppose it's because even if you build the gate in a mountain you the people are still able to walk past the gate or when it's open however because there are mountain walls people cannot enter it from on top of those mountain (that's atleast how I have interped what was posted in another thread). If that gate is open than your members SHOULD not open another gate while that gate is open (because as said they should register that gate being open as a route being opened outside of the enclosed circle/square/whatever shape your outpost walls are aka it is seen as a route out of the outpost).
I myself have not tried this myself (unfortunatly my outpost is too far away from mountains) but read this in another thread.
However if:

really works that would be the best solution (besides the new havok engine).Tolwrath wrote:The best way to get people to stop trying to open gates is to use the in-game path rebuilder (Ctrl+shift+F11) with all of your gates open. We will be getting a revamped pathfinding system in an upcoming patch that should hopefully address all of these issues. What new issues this will have introduced that have to be dealt with before its release is difficult to say. I imagine it won't be too long before we get an official ETA on the revamp.
