Well, I haven't had this particular problem for awhile, but it's back again.

I tried a quicksave, which failed. I got an error message this time which told me to try again. But after that, I couldn't get the game to save either with the quicksave or by escaping to the menu to do an ordinary save. It would just sit and do nothing.

Note that the little arrow in the top left corner of the screen did show up (and did not go away afterwards). I just never got an indication that the game had actually saved.

As usual, I could not exit the game after this, either. I had to Ctrl-Alt-Del to open the Task Manager, but even then, I couldn't see the Task Manager because Kenshi still covered the screen. After fiddling around with Alt-Tab, though, I was finally able to get to the Task Manager to close Kenshi, so I didn't have to reboot my entire computer.

Afterwards, I checked my save games. I do have an updated time stamp on the "Current" save, though I doubt if that will work. Certainly, I did not have a new quicksave or the other save I tried to make after this happened (so I've got a big fight with beak things to do all over again, I guess).

Note that this same thing has happened several times in the past, but not recently.

I did not get a crashdump report, but I'm attaching the kenshi.log and kenshi_info.log files, as well as the MyGUI.log file (whatever that is), which had a time stamp of just one minute before the other two log files. I don't know if that will be useful or not.

I'm getting exactly this error. I've actually tried disabling auto-saves but after a while manual saves also fail. Depending how long you leave it this can obviously lead to quite a lot of lost progress.

I'll try grab logs next time this happens, and will be keeping an eye on this thread too.

Whenever I have an instance of File Explorer open my silly Win 10 loves to deny access to the save files by not allowing them to be over-written. (Creating a brand new save with a new name still works.)
The reason I'm saying this is because of your last entry in kenshi_info:

{0x00003bf0} 2019-01-17 19:22:20 [info]: [SaveFileSystem] Error: Failed to move folder ./save/current to ./save/current_temp(boost::filesystem::rename: Access is denied: "./save/current", "./save/current_temp")
{0x00003bf0} 2019-01-17 19:22:20 [error]: [SaveManager::saveGame] Failed to save game 'quicksave'. Exception: boost::filesystem::rename

OK, thanks. I'll try that, the next time this happens.

Note that this doesn't happen to me very often, but it's been happening - occasionally - for months now (only in Kenshi, although that's mostly what I've been playing).

Update:

i have tried a new game on the experimental build. I am still getting the occasional "Save failed" error with auto-saves BUT the menus are no longer disabling and i can immediately make my own manual save which (so far) works without issue.

(EDIT: I spoke too soon, after about 2 hours of play the same failed to save issue occurred and I had to quit out via task manager as no menu options worked).

I've noticed that whenever a save fails in this manner it is changed in to a current_temp file. Once the actual failure happens that's it, the save state is unstable, and menu's no longer do anything (the buttons all appear and can be highlighted and selected as normal but nothing further actually happens). I'll try deleting the temp file during play and see if that helps.

OK, the saves stopped working again for me, just now. Same thing as many times previously. A few things:

1. I did try to save the game using a brand-new save (instead of overwriting an old save). That made no difference. It still wouldn't work.

2. I don't seem to have a "current_temp" file. At least, I don't have it after I finally manage to exit the game (and I can't get to File Explorer until then). So that's not a problem for me, at least.

3. That little white arrow at the top left of the screen, which typically appears while the game is saving, does appear when this happens, but it doesn't go away again. (Note, again, that I can't exit the game, either. So this is quite annoying.)

4. The last time this happened, I noticed that I did have a "current" folder with an updated time stamp. So I tried it, and I was able to start the game again and play with "continue" game. (Note that I can't do that when the game crashes, ordinarily.) That's the only time I've tried that, so maybe the game is saving to "current," but gets hung up after that?

Again, no crashdump report, but I'm attaching Kenshi.log, Kenshi_info.log, and MyGUI.log.

Thanks.
