So, I wanted to pick up a River Raptor so that I can train Strength for my characters. However, they are marked as "kidnapping." Is it wrong to "kidnap" a beast in this game? Because, that doesn't make any sense. Unless they're protected by the Holy Nation...

Don't worry, it's not really a bug, just a weird mechanic.
It's not entirely clear to me when it's kidnapping, and when it's legal to do so.
But I think it takes the AI that sees you into account. Which are the other raptors, so for them it's kidnapping.
[Same with stealing, you can have a stealing tag when looting somebody, while there's nobody on his feet to really care or consciously object.]

That said, I had a war with the raptors once, they do suffer from the 100th monkey-effect, so if you attacked a squad unprovoked somewhere, chances are, river-raptors on the other side of the world will also be hostile to you from then on..
