Major Bug .40

Hey I just updated Kenshi from the .33 version to .40 today and I can no longer play the game. The game starts up fine and the main page looks fine. The trouble starts when I click to start a new game. At first it acts like it's loading( I can see the option to make a name, height, posture all those things), but after it gets done loading I can no longer see anything but my character. I can't see the sliders to adjust body characteristics and I also cannot get the menu to come up( at least I can't see it come up) when I hit escape. The rest of the screen is a blue-greyish color with a few specs of landscape here and there. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

I am experiencing this issue as well and thought I should post it here instead of making a new post. I have tried re-installing the game but the problem persists. I can see my characters but the menus and scenery is gone. It looks like there are a bunch of blocks behind the character. I've uploaded a picture of the issue in question
Edit:

Windows 7
Intel i7 Q740
8GB RAM

Try a reinstall, completely clearing the old files first (backup your save first). Also try turning off shadows.

Turning off shadows corrects the problem. May I know if this means that my computer cannot handle having shadows on? Also, could it be due to something that is incomplete within the game that is causing this issue? Thank you for your help.

Hi I have the same problem but doing a fresh install and turning off shadows doesn't fix the problem for me, also turning off shadows just changes the color of the mess from blue greyish to just black. This happened in the previous version, (0.33) but moving to a different sector and having it load would fix it for me, but that doesn't work in this version.
With shadows enabled:
Shadows disabled:
my specs:
Windows XP
4GB ram
Nvidia Geforce 465 GTX
AMD Phenom II X4 945

Sorry for taking so long to respond back, but I tried your advice Chris and the game now works properly. It seems the shadows were the cause of the problem though I'm not sure why. Anyway thanks for the help Chris.

Yeah, I had a fairly old driver (301.42) so I updated to 314.07 but there was no change sadly.

seal, try setting disable terrain cutting in the options. Also does the problem go away when you enter a building?
If disabling shadows fixes it, you can also try enabling shadows and choosing a lower shadow quality.
As it stands, I have no idea why this bug happens on a few systems, or how to fix it. Except maybe by trying shit at random, but its near impossible when I don't have a system to replicate it on.

Okay I've tried your suggestions and saw no change, went into buildings twice once on a new
save and once on my old save nothing changed, I tried a 3rd time on another new save and it
seemed to have fixed it that time. from then on it seems going into a building fixes it
everytime, with or without shadows enabled.
Also, the mess seems to hide behind buildings, I'm not sure if that'll help at all but I
thought I'd just throw that out there.
