Crash when importing characters from v0.33 to v0.40.1

I have a party of 5 warriors. The save is somewhere in the southern part of the desert. I tried to import without buildings and resetting the squad position and both crash the game after a few seconds.
Loading the game functions, but the game performance is significantly slower than on v0.33

The performance problem could be from the shadows, try turning them down.
