upgrading the craftbench past III - cannot make weapons

I've done now all available research.

Any weapon I try to make says the same thing: "no valid craft bench". I cannot make weapons at all.

I'm making a guess here that I should be able to upgrade the craftbench to level 4?

Also, it seems the weapon benches are external items - is this intentional?

im not sure but it could be that it needs a worker

This is a known bug. The bench will work for anything you can research, but what it needs is steel bars instead of iron. Currently there is no way to make steel bars yet, so you will need to buy them. Go to craft the item you wanted with the smith having steel bars in his inventory, or place the bars in the raw materials section manually to kick it off.

Try building a weapon bench 3 instead of upgrading it from a weapon bench 2. For some reason when i upgraded from bench 2 to 3 it only has a slot for Iron, but when i just built a 3 it had a spot for steel and i was able to craft the higher tier weapons.

sorry if that doesn't make sense, I'm terrible at explanations.
