Issue: Performance Issue: Mouse acting erratically

kenshi Ver 0.44
Downloaded from Main site http://www.indiedb.com/games/kenshi/dow ... enshi-0400
Patched via wyUpdate from .40 to 42.2
Patched from download from http://www.indiedb.com
Patched via wyUpdate to 0.44.1

Steam Download .42.2 patched to 0.44.1

Mouse pointer jumping and skipping or freezing in game. Happens with wired /non wired and built in laptop mouse. Have not been able to pinpoint cause though it does seem to happen more noticeably the longer the game runs. happens through any game. Very difficult in moving inventory and similar actions. Does not impact PC movement over much Changing settings do not help.

Also Uninstalled, removed game remnants, cleaned registry and reinstalled with .44 Download. issue persists.

Behavior not noted in 42,2

[UPDATE] Issue becoming notably worst. mouse begins acting up 2 min into game

This issue sounds like your RAM buffer is full or your system just doesn't have enough.

The longer Kenshi runs, the more NPCs, land, buildings, etc. are being rendered into memory, thus causing the mouse to appear laggy/jumpy.

Do you have other applications running in the background? Ran a memtest lately?

Firstly; thank you for all the responses to my other posts.

As far as setup goes I am running clean testing environments as follows:
1: HP DV6t-2000 Laptop, i-7 q 720 proc, 8 Gb gskill ram, i-7 q 720 proc, 1 250 GB SSD ( I switch the drive out for testing)
1: GIGABYTE X-58 G1.Assassin, i-7 960 proc, 24 GB gskill Trident DDR-3 1600(CL7-7-8-7-24 timing), 3 Corsair neutron SSD running raid 0

I tweak my services and settings for performance to get rid of unnecessary programs running in the back ground referencing www.blackviper.com.

I see this issue on both machines. To me it looks like a potential memory leak that was introduced in between 42.2 and 44 and was not caught during latest updates. the only way to get around this is by turning most all settings low on my desktop. No matter how low I put the settings on the laptop the issue will not disappear.
If not a memory leak, it could be hardware/registry setting, but I find that doubtful due to the differences in hardware being used, including mouse.

Ideas?

No thanks necessary, I enjoy QA'ing for Kenshi more than my actual job. :P

I can tell you for a fact there is a tiny memory leak, but I've only encountered this when you're rendering huge areas of the map (approximately 4 NPC towns in size).

My current setup is:

Dell OTP406 Mobo w/ Intel X38 chipset
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz
8 GB DDR2 RAM @ 400 MHz
NVIDIA GeForce 500ti
Hard drive manufacturer unknown at this moment, but its a stock SATA ~300 GB HDD that came with the machine. I've yet to hook up the extra 1 TB SATA I have sitting on the desk in front of me.

I'm not surprised the issue happens on your laptop as that particular model is 3 years out-of-date. I do a great deal of work with different variants of mobile GPUs, and I have to say NVIDIA's 200M series is seriously lacking performance, not to mention most mobile GPUs aren't even compatible with current drivers. Also assuming you're running Windows 7, as that is the only OS supported by said laptop.

The desktop, however, should be able to run the game just fine. Unless, like you noticed, there is a new memory leak in there somewhere that your particular chipset (or maybe even DDR3 versus my DDR2) is picking up now.

I'm assuming you're as knowledgeable if not more than myself, but did you double-check what you are tweaking in your OS? I only glanced over his page, but I'm one that tends to avoid modifying any services or kernel settings within the OS. Never had a positive outcome from that form of tinkering. Also presuming you have your RAID 0 setup plugged into the correct SATA ports. Looking at your MOBO's page, it seems there are two different devices handling storage.

Beyond all this info (some obvious, some hunches), I'm fresh out of ideas beyond moving your Kenshi folder to an internal HDD and running from there to see if anything else happens.

This laptop is actually a rock steady performer and can handle any of the new games out on the market.
I did a lot of research before purchasing. The Motherboard for this laptop is actually being used for Blade servers. the DV "Quad edition" line was the test bed for it.
That being said, It is, however, more sensitive to a developing application where a newer machine can bulldoze its way over certain issues. this is why I like to test on the laptop as well as a normal box.

Ive noticed this too primarily down in the lower right hand site of the map since I purchased Kenshi @ v 42.2

I'd check this if I had all the components to make a system running DDR2. HAHAH I'm not that much a component pack rat
Perhaps there are a few more individuals out there testing that have system(s) with this type configuration to validate?

Yes, Ive done the testing both with a standard setup and modified. IMHO It would be worth your while to investigate that page more. It has helped me many times in the past.

yes the SSD's are situated in the correct ports, however, even if not, this shouldn't interfere with the mouse but could effect over all performance. Hard to tell as the game is still Alpha stage and has not been "normalized".

One last hunch I'll throw your way to see if it resolves this issue somehow. Have you thought about transferring your entire Kenshi folder to a FTP? (I personally use Dropbox to allow seamless syncs during gameplay) I only throw this out there because I do a lot of moving around from home to work to out-of-state, and I'm happy to report that Kenshi has not given any issues when running the game from all of these locations whilst inside my Dropbox folder.

If that does nothing for you, I MIGHT be able to re-create your setup at my work (incredible component hoarders that we are), but I can assure you that I will be able to test if there are any differences between DDR, DDR2, and DDR3 if that would even cause such an issue.

HAHAHA, that would be WAY OUT of spec to do that if your able. however, it would be interesting to try that and have it work.

I can confirm to you that DDR2 vs. DDR3 RAM does not have an affect on gameplay.
I can tell you, however, that the latest Microsoft C++ Redistributables and DirectX should be installed, as Kenshi will not run properly, or at all, without these.
Not sure if .NET Frameworks are required or not. I'm assuming they aren't as the PC I tested this on was a fresh install of Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.

Also, I did use my Dropbox Kenshi folder for all of these PCs. Makes it so easy. :D
