Nobody knows... So far I've had the game a month or two and it seems stuff like that just appear. One day you'll update and suddenly be able to place cages. At least that's how it's been for me so far.

"...And of course my artists are still working, the female model is now done and just needs texturing. And rigging. And exporting. And clothes and armours."

The hell with clothes! We can handle them naked!
Oh well, nice update add, hope to see them soon.
Along with the other cool stuff.

I noticed that as well. But I kept wondering... "And of course my artists are still working."

Artists? I thought there was only one he had hired. Now he's speaking about artistS. It sounds like we are starting to get new art faster than excepted. :D

I've got a freelance art studio working for me, its handled by 1 guy who recruits more or less artists as needed. I'm not sure how many are working on it.

I'd give it another couple of months. I will need to revamp the whole world to replace all the characters and gear, plus revamping the character editor.

Months? Was new art really... necessary, at this point? I thought the crafting and economy all that was up next?

Dood, it's a sausagefest in here. Women first, economy later.

Also, a dismissal button wouldn't be a bad idea. Gonna need to make room for all the ladies, and it'll be a bit cruel to send the unwanted to their deaths. Cruel, but I'm not so moral as to forbid it.

I can second this. Pretty things are all well and good, but substance is almost always more important.

That's right my revolutionary friends !
I would also prefer the females first, but i guess his order of doing things has a logic.
In any case i don't think we would change his mind, even if we bugger him with daily posts.

Substance is more important when thinking gameplay. But think of every single FPS game ever made. Substance in them is point and click. Some sort of object appears and you have to click it to make it disappear. The objects see you as same kind of object and try to click it. The one who can click faster, wins.

That is all the idea and that is the base of FPS. The rest is graphics. Rest is only making it look better. Rest is making it look more real. Very simple idea. Game where you click as many boxes as you can has the same idea. Still they are one of the most played games. Only because they look good.

I know that is very extreme example, but think about it. ;)

When game looks good, it brings so much more players to it. After trying Kenshi it took me 3 weeks to buy the game. Why? I was afraid that looks of the game wouldn't improve from what it was. I don't like the thought of whole map full of empty dessert and I didn't like the absence of details. This looked more like a test than a game. After browsing the forums and other stuff I learned that this is very early release and things will improve.

But not everyone investigate the forums. I bet there are many gamers who heard about Kenshi and thought it as interesting but left after seeing what it looks like. And I bet that it happens all the time until game looks like this: http://ve3dmedia.ign.com/images/00/15/1 ... normal.jpg

What I'm saying is, that Kenshi already has decent features and decent gameplay and things to come sound awesome. But after we get decent art, decent graphics, decent looks, the number of buys will greatly increase.

That upper post was somewhat off the tracks...
But i see your point, and i liked that analogy
"The rest is graphics. Rest is only making it look better. Rest is making it look more real. "
A logical evolution of game design.

Think about it this way. If people these days buy based on graphics, then get the artwork outta the way. Now you got a nice pretty piece of work to attract the eyes of more people. Hopefully that gets more sales, which usually equates to faster progress on the gameplay end of development.

That is exactly what I was trying to say. So much shorter and better than my mammoth rant and sums up about everything. Maybe I should just shut up and let the smarter people speak.

I recognize your intellect, I just had to dumb it down a little for the masses. Apologies in advance for those offended.

That being said, performance takes precedence, for even if you have a nice pretty project going, you may lose face if you have loading times longer than the average attention span, and that's growing short nowadays.

I disagree. There becomes a point where you simplify so much that the point you are making is fundamentally lost.

Furthermore, you statements about the empty desert of kenshi and "lack of details" speaks very heavily about the state of the unfinshed features rather than a purely graphical issue; having realistic boobies that fit on your character does not change this. If you zoom in and look around there are mountains and graphical features a-plenty. There are, however, very few things to do other than kill, buy armour, sell stuff, recruit guys and build. That is the WHOLE game.

I'll add more, if people buy only based on graphics as you and some other posters suggested then Kenshi is going to fail...hard. Chris cannot compete with AAA games on this aspect alone. Content will be king. Sure, make it look pleasingly acceptable, but trying to compete with Crysis (or whatever passes for graphics these days) only on graphics is going to fail hard. He better hope some people can appreciate on content. And the thing is, regulars on this forum have disappeared. When I've spoken to them outside the kenshi forums they name the lack of progress in content as their main issue. The issue is starting to get worse the more publicity kenshi gets.

So, cool; more pretties. This is nice. But back to my statement and Mattk50's statement, is this really necessary right now? He has limited funds at the moment and a lots of big promises to fill content-wise. I'd love him to work on the economy like he has said a few times is coming up soon.

Oh there are still plenty of content gamers, like myself, still around. Problem is, we are a dying breed. If Chris were to tap into the COD generation, it could vastly improve his monetary standing. Like an investment, put a little money into one thing, hoping to strike it rich in returns. Then you have all the money needed for content updates, in theory. But, hey, it's not like I've been here before, and I'm nobody special. In the end, it's all up to the judgement of Chris.
