So I brought attention to Kenshi with a friend of mine and we had a grand time talking about it and reading through News about features. One thing that really interested me is when he asked How would this game end? Surely there is a start (when you come into the world) and a middle ( becoming what you sought to be), but how would it all end?

Another question that popped up was if you brought someone onto your group would you hire them onto your group or would they just act as a loyal follower? (Would you pay a wage for them to stick around?) And would the player be able to equip them or would they equip themselves with better equipment?

All the best in the development! I check regularly for updates :D

Sure that is one possibility and a very obvious one, but if you read previous documents on kenshi perma-death was discussed but also the ability to toggle it off. If that was the case, then what? Would the user, having bear his eyes on the screen so long be entitled to retire, thus ending the game? :P

There isn't an ending. I've never felt that I need an ending in order to enjoy a game, I think its unnecessary. When I start to grow all big and powerful in any game either the game officially ends and I stop playing, or I have all this power and there's nothing to do with it. I aim to do my best to avoid both scenarios, and keep the world challenging throughout. The player will also have options to start a new game with imported characters from previous games, with new world settings. I want to make it as replayable as possible.

Characters you recruit act as your own, you control and equip them yourself.

TBH, i kinda liked the idea of all the AI you recruit are their own unique self, it would be cool if they did most of the work (like equipping their self) while you can change what they do if you want.

Chris: Cheers for the answer! And I like what I hear. I just wanted to put forth that I wasn't at all opposed to the idea, but it was an interesting discussion I had with my friend and I wanted to see what other people thought.

Swaggernuts: Aye, that would be neat. Even if there is a way to influence such as " Buy Heavy armor, a sword, a staff" So there is an influence rather than direct control (or direct control comes with the most trusted ai, the one that has been with you the longest and is willing to die for you (Respect?))

One interesting thing could be to take a look at roguelikes. Some very simple roguelikes have automatic equipment rejection/acceptance systems, sometimes based on very complex rules. It probably would be possible to have AI either take whatever's handed to them, or loot intelligently.

Questions could be simple:
What's my favored weapon type?
How nasty are the weapons I'm considering switching between?
How long are they?
How heavy?
How fast can I swing them?
Does using them leave me vulnerable?
Does this armor provide total cover, or just cover vitals?
Do I care about my arm, if it means I could survive an otherwise fatal hit to the chest?
Is the armor light enough for me to use with relatively few complications?
Can I upgrade this stuff later?
Should I pick up this guy's crap to sell at market next week/give to friends/etc.? [maybe not for NPC's in the party, but would be interesting for bandits who scavenge victim's gear]

prototypedesign: A pawn or use type of mindset. That's interesting.

A simple system would perhaps go "I'm a heavy guy who likes strength so lets find high damage weapons and heavy armor (use)". "But my boss has instructed me to return him the goods, however I could use these (some sort of indicator that the npc wants to use it) <equipment presented to player> (pawn/give).
