Hi,
I have been following this project for a few years.
Now that it seems to be approaching(tm) release, are you considering letting us pre-order it?
I was actually starting to expect a pre-order link to appear on the site or something to be mentioned in the forums about it but I have found nothing.
You could do a legal 'you are paying for the software as it now stands and will recieve a free full version if it is ever released' type thing to protect yourself against all the lawsuits should it transpire that the project is never completed, for some reason.
I for one would be happy to pre-order anyway.
Looking forward to the next release anyway.

I am tempted, but I want people to be able to play the demo before they buy, so that they can be well aware of any bugs etc they might find. Not that I expect it to be buggy, but its not going to be perfect at this stage and I don't want to be getting too many useless complaints that aren't constructive criticism or bug reports.

Cool - I understand.
There are a couple of games I can think of that have a pre-order thing. Project Zomboid is another nice potential gameI am following that went a bit viral in the early stages of development, but boy is their forum full of complaining 'customers', even though they were really clear on the pre-alpha tech demo is what you get for now thing. Perhaps to be expected. Must be a problem to moderate.
Good luck with the development anyway.
Will definitely buy upon release.

I do not think that preorder is good thing ( i would definetely preorder ) because many people preorder thinking that they get finished product. Also you won't get labeled as scammer who is doing that only for money. I do think that it is better to let people play demo to see what they are buying, than forum full of people wanting to get refund. Also you can do it way Overgrowth did it, secret preorder forum would eliminate problems of that kind.

Well i know i paid for M&B whenn it was in beta stage or smth, well a long time ago and i enjoyed it even though it was full of bugs and not that many featuers... but it was so long ago i changed my pc 2 times and lost the copy/key and last year bought m&b and m&b fire and sowrd, and well i dont regret a dime, even though i am not one of the wealthiest persons, and if there is ever preorder here you can count me in.

for a few years? how long has this project been going on exactly?
At first it's us that makes our actions,
But in the end it's our actions that define us.

Well, Chris_The_Great joined the forum in July 2008, so it's been at least 4 years now. Now don't quote me on this, but I think he once mentioned it's been closer to 5 years actually, I'd have to look up the exact post (or I could've just misread it of source).

Which would be entirely reasonable seeing as how he probably already worked on the project for a certain amount of time before announcing/revealing it. That's how it usually goes I believe.

Hey don't rush yourself with your project. Like all good things they take time. This is going to be a great game and it touches on a lot of concepts that I love in gaming. Really looking forward to playing it.

I too would pay in order to get access to the game now (what can I say, I've got more money than patience and not very much of either), but I can absolutely understand Chris' concerns. Too damn many thirteen year-olds ignoring the explicit warnings that have been laid out so far, saying the game sucks after trying to play it for five minutes, and damaging Chris' sales or - worse - his reputation.

I don't know if you're planning this already, but maybe once you feel the end is in sight you could put up a Kickstarter project to get funding for the last mile? I'm a big fan of Kickstarter, I've seen a number of projects funded to completion through it, and when Notch touted "Lords of Uberdark" the guy hit something like $21,000 in a week or two. Just make sure you come up with some awesome rewards - "You just bought me a shiny new PC, give yourself a pat on the back" is a pretty crappy reward for a thousand bucks (again, that was for Lords of Uberdark), and predictably nobody donated at that level (though I might have if I had a thousand dollars to burn).
