Warrior monks (the kind you would see in a bleak setting where they need to survive) didn't favour unarmed combat. Some of them were the most feared warriors of their countries, too--using spears and swords like any other warrior culture.

They have a 60KG axe...? What is the max carrying weight of a Kenshi character?

Assassin's Creed 2 has done one of the best jobs I've seen. Because being unarmed made it easier to disarm enemies.
I think you need some sleep haha.
He said 60 pounds which is around 27kg, I assume he's talking about the 24kg Fragment axe. And there's no max carrying weight in kenshi atm. From what I've gathered there isn't currently a cap on levels somebody has lvl 101 in first aid. (not sure if that applies to base stats as opposed to skills)

Sleep is for people with comfortable beds.

Haven't heard of a battle axe heavier than eight pounds. Most sledgehammers don't get to 60 pounds.

Since we're still in early stages, where there aren't any skill caps and the like, Chris might be intending to adjust these numbers later.

I did say 60kg which is about 27 pounds. It is one of the heavy weapons. Chris truncated the weapon range at some point. In the game now, weaapons stop at truth I series. There are series after that, like Truth II and Edge Walkers. Now the names may change with crafting, but weapons get their properties by multiplying their value with a set value for a weapon type. At least with Fragment Axes, their weight increased as well.

I want to think that with the upper end of Truth II series the Fragment Axe weighed in triple digits, but I havent seen one in a while now.

Check out the interview on the main page he speaks about unarmed combat some, and he said this about the warrior monk outfit, 'Unarmed combat will be a tougher route, but doable, and with good ultimate potential.' He also stated that the warrior monks would be an 'unarmed faction'.

Edit: It took me a minute to investigate carrying capacity, I was interested too. Basic encumbrance is your strength +15kg. The max strength is 99. As long as you stay below basic encumbrance value you are 'weightless', exceed by 30% you are 'lightweight', exceed it by 60% you are 'moderate', exceed it by 120% you are 'heavy'. I went up to 400% and could still move (still 'heavy'), so there may be no limit to the weight a character can move.
Image Spread the buzz of Kenshi.

You seem to be mixed up. 60KG would be about 132.7 pounds.

A triple digit weight weapon? Even at 60 pounds, it is ridiculously heavy. Heavier than most sledgehammers, which make poor weapons (fine if you hit--but good luck hitting).

I see the mention of the monks being an unarmed faction... can't find his thoughts on unarmed combat, but I don't doubt his intentions. I'm glad he plans to have it harder to succeed with at first.

The Heavy category for a 100 strength guy is comparable to the weight lifting Olympic record, just for comparison. Hopefully a weight cap, where you can't move while carrying too heavy a load, will be put in later.
