Storage: how to?

I've bought this game few days ago. It is one of the best games evar, in my opinion.

But I have 2 questions:
1. If it is possible, how do I make my followers bring items which they made to the storage? For example, when my Blacksmith makes the sword and there is something in the queue, he will stand nearby and will not do something untill I make someone come, take the sword and bring it to the storage. Is it possible to make this process automated, or I have to "clear" the output myself each time?
2. And if it is possible, where should I store bread and rum? My workers make only 5 ittems and then they wait until someone clears the output. :/

1. It's not automated. Not yet, at least. Only some materials' storage is automated, if a dedicated storage is available (building materials, flour and coal for instance).

2. You can store bread and rum in a normal storage chest.

There's a mod for dedicated storage of the things not yet covered by the vanilla game. They work. It's just a single 40 unit stack.
