I for one love assaults, even with just one faction coming up and shouting at you in red text it adds so much to the game. It gives my previously fight-starved lads valuable combat practice, and adds quite a lot for story and roleplaying moments. Like the time when the DB boss took three men to go extort money from some lowly farmers. Then got stabbed in the gut by the buffest woman he had ever seen, and ended up in a cage, stripped of his clothing, with a katana aimed at his throat. Or the time when another boss rolled up, ready to kill some people. Only to be jumped by UC samurai, and die in a charnel pit surrounded by the bodies of his own men.
I am intrigued as to how diplomacy will pan out, such as how more neutral factions like the UC and HE will interact with you. They could come up and ask if your settlement wanted to join their faction. You would pay taxes in exchange for protection. Something else cool would be being able to side with the DBs. Such as raiding a bunch of caravans and presenting items to the extortion parties.

Just my thoughts/ideas on/for my favorite addition to the game so far, keep up the good work guys.

Pretty sure Chris did say there will be other factions that will randomly demand help from your base in the future.

I'm still thoroughly enjoying the massive amounts of Hungry Bandits that have been flooding my base lately.

I have yet to be assaulted. so far, its just people wondering by that happen to be hostile. Then again, i did build my new base between the cannibal villages, and i have been regularly purging the cannibals. So maybe they fear me?

Found it:

Faction AI and interaction with your hometown, so for example a major faction might send a diplomat offering trade or demanding taxes, bandits may send a squad demanding money or goods and threaten to come back with an army etc.

Straight from the Roadmap, so it is confirmed that other factions besides Dust Bandits will be doing Assaults soon.

I've had a single Dust Bandit Boss come by my base, and I didn't even see his group approach until I saw the massive red text above his head. I'm pretty sure he called my squad either gits or gimps; I don't remember now.

Where have you setup your base? I have almost constructed a full large base with only having a few assaults from dust bandits. Dont even think ive seen a hungry bandit yet. And definatly havent seen a cannibal. My town was setup between catan and traders edge. I get no action there and am probably going to restart my game and build somewhere more challenging.

Currently in the valley between Eyesocket and Black scratch. Massive waves of Hungry Bandits pass through there all the time, apparently.
