As you see in the pictures attached walls have this option to set them as public or as private. Whats the point in this ?
Walls should not have public/private settings

I believe they should have these settings. In a walled city in a hostile landscape, why would you readily allow the public to access your walls and the defenses on them?
I think I had a character get creamed by the guards for trespassing on walls, but just before that I had trespassed in a private building so I don't know if they later aggro'd because of that. They originally didn't aggro and were only following me.
Either way, I would like to keep the public/private toggle for walls, and if anything develop the code around it to make sneaking around on the walls more realistically treated by the guards.
As an example how it might otherwise be abused, I've gotten away with fleecing Blister Hill by hiring a guy and setting him up on the wall, assigning him to a turret, then while the guards were chasing my thief out of town I ran him by the turret so the newbie could take some potshots at them. It got most of the heat off my thief, and the newbie just ended up doing a bit of time (and getting good training) in jail for a day.

I think if it's set to private, people generally won't come in. I haven't seen a gate set to private yet, but I generally check the gate to see before I enter. I'd expect trouble if I did.

Okay, maybe I don't understand your objection. Why do you believe so firmly that the walls shouldn't have the option of setting them as public or private?
I checked, and it's only walls you can actually walk on that have the option, so it makes only too much sense to me. You just don't think the guards should be allowed to object to you jumping all over their ramparts?

Before 92.0 was making sense since that place provide all the resources and was constantly invaded by dust bandits. Even so the wall was the last thing I have build to complete the base since I don't really need it and didn't needed from the start. Anyway I don't understand your statement. Maybe you want to explain. Anyway if I didn't build it I could not see this feature on the wall.Zeal wrote:Build an armed fortress next to hiveling, and it'll start making sense.
Firstly, if you don't build a wall, then it's a dead feature to you regardless of whether it can be made public or not ;pDrag00ne wrote:Before 92.0 was making sense since that place provide all the resources and was constantly invaded by dust bandits. Secondly, workers sometimes man turrets. If the public/private feature is working correctly, it should prevent them from walking on the walls and manning those guns, when you may not want them to. You don't want those 0-1 turret skill hiveling or farmers manning your own guns firing into melee combat where your own units are engaged with an enemy.
Unfortunately I don't think this feature -is- working correctly. It is just one reason that the public/private on walls could be used in an efficient manner. If you don't use the feature, you can safely ignore it. That doesn't mean it won't be beneficial to anyone else though
Ok I now understand what you was trying to say but hivers ignore the private/public on buildings too so it's useless atm and if is a good feature maybe is better to set the ramps to public/private so I don't need to find that exact portion of the wall (I mean the wall have so many sections ...)
