I think that one happens in the base game. It seems there is a spawn in or very near to Shark or something. I've had this happen on a save before I even installed the zombie mod, but I'm never close enough to properly check out what happens there. It does seem like a huge fight breaks out in Shark though.
I've checked the data folder to remove the variety mod, lo and behold the game didn't even know the zombies mod was installed (Mods.cfg had "kenshi-greatervariety.mod" only  )

After removing the greater variety line in mods.cfg(and deleting the related .mod) I've restarted the game to find the fight still going on, a quick load after the mobs sunk to the ground and disappeared/stopped fighting made them return, going to start a new game now(with import of course).

[ The above isn't related to the zombie mod but I am describing in boring detail everything so another Kenshi newb wouldn't get freaked out like me :) ]

The new game is peaceful, I am not seeing any large scale fights although the dust bandit spawn theory is true, many skirmishes (2 or 3) near the town.

After downloading and installing the mod, your sagely advice of trying out a new game popped up again (Load produces no zombies whereas new-game_with import does)

First impressions: DAMN! that's a lot of zombies... (far off green fight lines) so much that my laptop can't cope and Kenshi's lagging xD

I will give it a few more minutes, once the lag settles zombies will have a new squad to dread!

Conclusion: I am guessing that most of this post and the above should either be moved/aren't relevant to this mod, so if you want me to move them just say so.
Oh and thanks for your patience.
(Super lag :D)

Eh, Kenshi's crashed, I am guessing that the game couldn't handle the zombie invasion.

I've started up the game as I've described in this post, after waiting and moving between one character to the other (One was near trader's edge, the other was in middle_of_nowhere-town) and moving trader's edge guy closer to a zombie hunter, lag-lag...click to fight...

When I switched to the main/nowhere guy and back (left portrait then right clicked on with right mouse button) and tried to reunite them the game crashed.

I hope that the crash dump zip is helpful, seems to me that is is either corrupted or impossible to operate/open as an archive.

***Second edit: the crash zip was corrupted :( I thought 0 Kilobytes meant the laptops were being picky but it wouldn't even be uploaded...

Ah yes, the mod might lag on laptops and other less powerful machines. Try decreasing your graphics in the option screen that pops up when launching Kenshi.

I downloaded this mod and have to say its quite a bit of fun. i played both with new characters and a squad i had made when i started playing kenshi. Good fun.
Also i have added this mod to the Modifications wiki page hope you don't mind. Also if you think that the category is incorrect let me know as i am not 100% sure what you plan for the endgame of this mod.

Again keep up the good work m8!

Total conversion is exactly what this mod will be aiming for. Though I'll have to wait for the game itself to be completed before being able to total-convert it?

Also, now might be a nice time to mention that I just had my last exam, and will now once again be able to spend time on posting, modding and moderating. First I'm going to have a look at how much Kenshi's changed since exams started (I'm especially curious if skeleton saving has been implemented yet, as that would allow me to greatly boost zombie diversity). I'm very glad to see the mod didn't break during this time.

Ok, tried your mod. Its fun but the laggyness is not for me. How do I switch back to regular kenshi? I made the mistake of not backing up anything. Do I have to redownload the entire game?

Nope no need for that.
Go to your kenshi/data/ folder and search for mod.cfg.
Open it with your text editor of choice and erase the line ZombieMod.mod

that's it.

Additionally, if you won't be using the mod again, you can clean up afterwards and erase:
the file ZombieMod.mod
and the custom body and skin files (they should be called something like zombie... or zombiemod... or zm... and they are in data/character folder)

You should always proofread carefully to make sure you didn't any words out.

Need help? pm me or any other mod.

Well I've actually gone through a few good wars in it so far, but I never really took any screenshots. I just jumped on and started up a new game to see if I could get something going. This is what I got.

Image

There is around 30 right there. However there is about another 50 spread throughout the town in multiple small fights. That was just from running around and gathering about three to four groups. If you want large warfare and zombies, then go for this mod. It's definitely got it. =J

Yeah, considering I was playing a new character I was barely able to fight toe to toe with one of the zombies. Needless to say, the town lost that fight through sheer numbers, so I decided to loot the guards and move on to the next town. (After outsmarting the zombies and getting away, of course. xP)

can't wait to get the option to build, thinking of how funny it will be for me to run from alley to alley (my town will be huge!!!) to keep away from the hordes of zombies, then all of a sudden i fall head first into one of those special zombies and end up going the other way -which is the place where the horde of zombies are- cause facing them sounds a lot easier than the special zombie

edit: is this on desura?

i see a lot of mods for mount and blade so i was just wondering

Basically, the only thing you should have to do is extract the "data" folder into your main "Kenshi" folder, unless the file structure changed in the last update that should still work. If you're on windows* some confirmation dialogs will open with the message "Kenshi already contains a folder called data blablabla" and stuff like that, just press ok/continue/overwrite, and it will place the correct files in the correct folders, and replace mods.cfg with a zombiemod-enabled version of mods.cgf automatically, no manual placement needed.

Really, there's not much more to it.

@wolfwood269: As far as I know, this mod isn't on Desura. So you'll just have to download the latest version from Rapidshare. Which brings me to this:

I'm starting work on a new update for this mod. I hope to add a little more variety to the zombies, in addition to increasing horde size (as a result from the poll).

EDIT: Also, screenshots are a nice idea. If you happen upon a nice zombie-scene, please take a screenshot. I'll get around to it myself eventually, but it's not really at the top of my priorities right now.

*No idea how this works on other platforms, though it's probably something similar.

ok i was just wondering since the mods i've been downloading (for mount and blade warband) is really easy. can't wait for the new update , but when you said you'll be increasing the special zombie's horde size how much are we talking about? will they be increased by 5 or 6, or something bigger like 10-20?

Decent alienware, but its laggy for me. I gave up. Maybe if/when chris gets multithreading implemented then this mod will really start to shine. Until then I just do some regular kenshi.

Weird, I play this mod on my university-supplied HP probook 6560b, and I can play it just fine (there's a little lag at startup, but apart from that it's barely even noticeable).

@wolfwood296: Horde sizes will increase by at least 10 zombies.

Also, sorry for the delay, but I underestimated the time needed for studies, it turns out I have very little time left to work on this mod. I'm tinkering with it a bit once every week, though the next release is still far off.

Though once Chris implements decent AI, faction-oriented goals and town sieges/ownership transfers, I'll try to free some time to add some stuff I really want to add to this mod.
