Couldn't find any info..will dual wielding be implemented in the future? (i'd guess for katanas only, as bigger weapons wouldn't be realistic to dual wield)

alrighty, good! it wouldn't be a huge priority but it's nice to know it'll be in eventually
Dual wielding is not really realistic in any fashion. I mean there were techniques for it in the east sure. Parrying daggers became slightly popular in Europe during late medieval and Renaissance era but that was more of a dueling weapon as opposed to a battlefield weapon. It'd be a rare person that could use an offhand weapon for much more than a slender shield though.

R.A. Salvatore has a Forgotten Realms book series that evolved from a trilogy about a group of adventurers, into a story focused on the popular character that has led to the entire series being re-branded as the legend of Drizzt. A dark elf that dual wields scimitars, he has since become something of a figure of note.

Depending on how dual wielding is handled, in games it often times nearly doubles the effective attack damage a character can deal. While it is impractical as an actual fighting style, that is likely why it is such a popular feature.

As for Musashi...

Haha, and not so far off his actual duelling style. He always liked to confound his opponents. One famous one involved him 'forgetting' 2 days in a row and leaving them standing out in the duelling ground for hours waiting for him. Then turning up 2 hours early the next time and ambushing them.Kamos wrote:As for Musashi...

Its all a battle of the mind...with oars for extra emphasis.
Also, an elf? Drizzle is an elf? God damn fantasy fanboi's.

For the full Drizzt effect you simply /must/ be the sole (CG) champion of justice hailing from an otherwise (LE) Villainous species.
I stopped understanding about halfway through that sentence.Psychedelic Warlord wrote:For the full Drizzt effect you simply /must/ be the sole (CG) champion of justice hailing from an otherwise (LE) Villainous species.

Allow me to help Blxz:
CG = Chaotic Good
LE = Lawful Evil
In Dungeons and Dragons (before 4th edition -- I don't know if it exists in 4th!), there is an alignment system that is basically divided in two ways -- Lawful/Chaotic, and Good/Evil (with neutral being in the middle obviously). This makes the simple graph of:
Lawful Good - Neutral Good - Chaotic Good
Lawful Neutral - True Neutral - Chaotic Neutral
Lawful Evil - Neutral Evil - Chaotic Evil
And certain archetypes fill each role -- IE a rebel of the empire is considered Chaotic Good, a Paladin is Lawful Good, etc.
Personally, I find Drizzt stupid. I've had a player in a campaign actually do the whole 'he's not Drizzt but he's an elf that dual wields scimitars that comes from this evil place wanting to do good' before, and... its dumb.
On the topic of Dual Wielding: What everyone else says -- Games tend to give dual wielding the whole 'super offense' ability, making them a very lucrative choice for people who favor maximum damage output or maximum dodge with counter (in a numerical system). I myself prefer shields and a good defense, but I'll wait for when someone decides to mod shields into Kenshi =P

Aye, 4e did away with Lawful evil, a shame as it was my favourite alignment; allowed for villains with a little more depth of character and perhaps a touch of pathos. Hopefully they'll bring back the old system with the distantly approaching 5e.Blaccy wrote:Allow me to help Blxz:

As far as dual wielding goes, I would argue in favour of it's incorporation on the basis that it feels right for the setting, wether practical in real life or not.
Shields are great, but the setting being of an overwhelmingly Japanese (or at the very least widely oriental) bent, I would shy away from them simply out of a desire to maintain the aesthetic of traditional katana form, which does not incorporate a shield.
As for dual wielding without shields rendering the single katana user obsolete, I remember that KOTOR had a branch on it's character tree devoted to improving the use of single one-handed weapons (Duelist?). A similar effect could perhaps mitigate the difference, the Dual wielder being capable of launching a faster flurry of attacks, wheras the single handed specialist gaining some sort of bonus to hit or parry?

true, but it looks cool. and yes it is totally fun.
however, this game is leaning more to accuracy than fantasy, so it probably wont be around, unless some sort of rogue/thief/spy build is in the works. but even then, it might just be smaller weapons like daggers and such.
This is why I said I will wait till someone else decides to -mod- it in -- I currently can't imagine it being incorporated into this game -- But the idea of a cyborg arm that can expand into an impromptu metal shield sounds pretty awesome!Psychedelic Warlord wrote: Shields are great, but the setting being of an overwhelmingly Japanese (or at the very least widely oriental) bent, I would shy away from them simply out of a desire to maintain the aesthetic of traditional katana form, which does not incorporate a shield.
Personally, I'd like to see dual wielding in the game. Its just more variety in a game where a bunch of AIs beat the crap out of each other in the middle of a fight, and seeing diversity of fighting styles in a big fight is just... -fun- to watch (well, to me!). I care less about stats and more about 'I wonder how he's gonna animate -this- thing'.
I honestly doesn't see how dual-wielding knives = thief, still... It seems that thieves have been put into a bit of a 'attack speed/crit all the way' kind of setting for most fantasy ideals, and daggers tend to take up that role extremely fast, but a thief, is just that -- A thief. I'd rather see them with bows, or maybe even a luggable mini harpoon gun for intimidation purposes!
(omigosh I can't wait for unarmed to be introduced one day -- I wonder if they will be able to disarm men with weapons if they are skilled enough, or if they will get some kind of gauntlet/vambrace that will allow them to deflect some katana blows! Ala Wonder Woman even, haha!)
