It seems my squad just love food and eating so much that when they head to the mess hall for a bite to eat they just stay there and ignore their assigned duties forever waiting for the next meal unless I bust some balls and drag them out moving them as close as possible to their task location where they will resume their work until the next time they need to eat and so on.

I don't like playing with no hunger mod activated specially now when I finally managed to carve-up some land in the heart of Orkan's Pride and now have 100% grow rate for wheat.

Any tips would be helpful and much appreciated.

Update: I've also noticed that when any of my characters have their Job button activated even if they have no assigned jobs, they will not stack anything in their backpacks and inventory and will immediately return them back to storage, at first I thought it was just food but it seems its the same for everything else as well.

Hello, fellow Okranite! This seems like a bug to me, because my guys behave normally, returning to their jobs after eating. Could you tell us the game version you're running, and also upload the savegame in question, so someone could look into it and try to help you out? :)

I see that I was wrong, and you oppose the Holy Nation, Okran have mercy on your soul :)

But nevertheless, i've tested your save here, and it seems like the issue you have there is distance. Characters has certain range beyond which they stop follow their jobs, or picking foods, or whatever, and becomes idle. You have, basically, established yourself a small country, rather than outpost or town, and you expect some people to run across it to get food and then back :)

Two examples: Mu, the gunner from the northern border, i've taken her as i saw her hunger lowers, and tell her to go -near- the mess. Once she arrived, she continued to stand there, despite having an active assignment.

The guy who worked some industrial near the river ad north-west, got hungry, ran to a mess, ate bread, went back to his work. So it definitely seems like a distance issue to me.

Suggestions:
1. You need a supply chain. Try to build a shack between northern gunners and messhall, somewhere in between, put a bread basket there and assign someone to haul bred into it. Then when gunner got hungry , they'll run into that inbetween shack, and could return to their duties after eating. Use more then one shack if needed, assigning a new guy to drag to the next shack (presumably, from a previous one).

2. Build more compactly.

I'm not really into modding, so i definitely won't help you if some mod happen to interfere with vanilla mechanics, so that you'll have to figure on your own, unless someone else could help you out :)

I will try that suggestion it makes sense.

As for the Holy nation, after setting up there I have had a steady supply of different Food rations, backpacks, weapons and armor from all of their caravans and patrols that die at my gates, its good business, I survived their first huge attack of 3 squads lead by a High paladin and never had much trouble with them since then, I do plan to make things right with them at some point, trade is hard now for me as am virtually surrounded.
