Edit: This issue has been resolved. Read on if you have the same problem I had.

The Freedom Seekers start is only allowing four characters instead of the intended six, not only leaving you short two characters but the materials they were carrying as well.

"Fed up with stifled city life and taxes, you gather a band to head out and found your new home base. You have assembled the group of 5 other like-minded people, and you've gathered a good supply of building materials to get started with."

Previously you started with 5 charters carrying wooden backpacks and a 6th character "The Old Solder".
4 packs contained building materials, iron plates, fiber and food. The 5th pack contained wheatstraw and a blueprint for a wheat farm.

Currently (sense about late march 2018) you start with 3 characters carrying wooden backpacks and 4th character "The Old Solder".
2 packs contain building materials, iron plates, fiber and food. The 3rd pack contained wheatstraw and a blueprint for a wheat farm.

This cuts the amount of materials to build with in half, not enough to start a base with. Ideally you could build a small wheat farm, and a shack with research (needed for well, bakery, containers, etc.), a well, a stone mine, manual stone processor and manual iron processor. but you can't with the new 4 character start. You can plant a small wheat farm, a shack and research but not enough building materials for basic mining.

Additional problems:
1) I believe the fiber might of been meant for a sleeping bag but the recipe has sense changed. I'd like to see the fiber gone and the addition of at least one sleeping bag.
2) Skeletons can not equip the wooden backpack after the first save making building a base impossible with the backpack stuck in inventory, and items previously in inventory are dropped on the ground if it doesn't fit with the pack. Selling the full pack doesn't get you the money for the backpack contents either so you won't be able to replace the materials that way.

If the the 6 characters starting a farm has been deemed to be too over powered for some reason, I would suggest the replacing of the "The Old Solder" tank with another noob farmer instead of removing the two farmers with backpacks. Please devs, let use know if this is a bug or if this change was intentional. It seemed to come with no warning.

What is your Squad Size Multiplier? The Freedom Seekers squad is set to 'dont multiply == FALSE' , so if you have a Squad Multiplier < 1, the total size of the squad will be reduced, while if it's > 1, you'll end up with more dudes.

Edit:

This is what the Freedom Seekers Squad is set to in the files, by the way.

I had no idea it scaled like that since it does say "you and 5 like minded people" in the description. I had only commented last night on another thread about a need for a reset button on settings because of the way using the scroll wheel to roll a page up and down over a horizontal slider has unintended affects. My setting was at .5, but after reading your post i got curious about the max of "3". This resulted in 18 starting characters with 3 old solders, 3 with wheat and blue prints, and the rest all loaded with building materials, iron plates, and fiber. just wow! And I thought the multiplier was just for the NPC squad sizes. Thanks for the tip!

this is still a problem, though not related to the squad size,

You should use Shidan's Tweaks & Fixes mod, it solves many issues that devs forget to, like that wooden backpack.
