When USA forced Japan to open it's ports, it got a huge industrial revolution: it exposed itself to european influence and the most important of all - prosperity. They may have not had the resources, but they still had a trumph card: adaption. Nearly as soon as it started, noble families invested on railroads and factories and it prospered much.

However, it made only a small ammount of people make the original katanas: with the large influx of european influence, it wasn't really long until people started replacing the blades with rapier blades on hilts, or put on a decorated hilt a katana blade. Now I just want weapon diversity, and there are some factors to be considered:

- European swords at the time were starting to be used less and less and have less effort put into them,
although it was still used in combat by infantry and officers

-European swords were more focused on thrusting, especially the rapier, however some were slightly curved because there were constant fights about what was the perfect sword: a thrusting or a slashing one

I wish to hear your opinions

Chris talks about this in the internet interview, he mentions spears for certain. The problem with adding more swords to me (and a rapier is an excellent example) is that each radically different sword type is a different proficiency. How much does the rapier add to Kenshi really? It also detracts from the whole Asian theme, which is an unique property of Kenshi. Asian culture is very diverse, especially if you draw from three millennial of it. There is plenty of diversity and wonder to be found there.
Image Spread the buzz of Kenshi.
