Heres a suggestion.
This idea came to me reading that music will be last if at all. Maybe instead the game should have a music player. A in game music player so people do not have to run a second process like windows media, and they can choose music from there own computer or hard drives.
There is already plenty of music pointed out for use around the forums, and even some music made just for the game. All the game would need in this case is a audio player we can use to manage (play/stop...ect) while playing without using alt+tab or anything similar.
This also does not rule out professional musicians being used to made default toons, but certainly widens the possibilities. Such as a fan made music, and posting it in the mod's section.

It seems logical to me for approaching the playable alpha version of this game by adding scripted missions first because it will give a purpose for the NPCs and player interaction and potentially break less and work more. Adding sleeping and all that just seems kind of over the top and bug prone, we already got enough bugs!
Adding endurance is the thing I want last (even though it is the easiest to do) because the most dependent element in this game currently fluctuates between bugs and lack of features endurance will restrict what little freedom our characters can have with the basics of hoarding loot and selling it for cats.
Now if chris wasn't trying to publish a playable alpha, I'd suggest he go for the optimization first because it will get harder to optimize on already built features. Since AI currently isn't too smart, having more of them doesn't make it better. So the added benefit doesn't seem that high to me.

Hello, I'm kinda new here and I bought the game just 10 minutes ago.. now, i'm sorry if I have seen wrong but unless there's already an option to play as a female, I'd like that most of all ^^
Thanks for the game
Thanks for the game
Yeah, their boobies might poke out of their armour. That would be terrible. Who would want to see that?Kamos wrote:Well that comes in time with art assets that will give women proper form fitting clothing. Right now there would be tons of clipping issues.

I would suggest tackling the biggest tasks first as those of us who have bought the game will be moderately entertained for the first while with the game in it's current state where as if you quickly implement the smaller stuff later on it's just going to make it feel like the development is dragging out longer then needed so I would start out with the harder & longer tasks first & get them out of the way making the development/patches steadily be released faster & faster as we start to tire of waiting on the features...catch me drift?
Of course your going to want to be balancing functionality with game play too so that they is still a little bit to be awed by in each release sort of thing ...just to keep us on our toes.

Yeah the biggest tasks would be best first, just like what Chris did with the multi-threading. Tackling the bigger tasks earlier will result in a more-stable game experience. (No need to repeat what Guild II did) However, some fun features should be added to make the alpha have more to offer. In unrelated news, the ability to build real-estate seems to be in the not so distant future.

Be glad that they were not pigeons, else there would be a coup.txfirefighter said:

Yeah, more weapons would lead to greater customization opportunities. (However the variety would be limited to whatever animations Chris could obtain. Quarter staffs and possibly spears/halberds would be interesting. One thing for sure, axes would be my weapon of choice.

but this brings up a question (i mentioned this months ago) but other than basic weapons will there be any extra bonuses to weapons?
not magic. but late game what is there to quest/buy/make? mine does x damage and his does y but other than that there is no difference.
my limited knowledge on history tells me that certain cultures made weapons much better than others.
japan - the katana. the craftmanship put into them was amazing and far surpassed western culture.
romans (just for the sake of talking) mastered metal working and developed weapons that exceeded their greek and Carthaginian enemies.
see where im going?

Neither the Romans or the Japanese were very good at making high quality weapons actually.
The only reason folding was necessary for Japanese Katana is because the iron they had to work with was garbage and they couldn't burn it hot enough to rid impurities. So they had to resort to beating out some impurities while making the weapon sharper decreased durability as well. Not to mention their methods were very time consuming and couldn't match up with European production standards. Essentially they had to do a lot of unnecessary work making it sound special. Most non nobility based weaponry was pathetic by comparison.
The Romans had a powerful industry sure but their strength came mainly from organization and leadership as well as keen diplomacy. Their actual crafting techniques didn't really differ from most their neighbors. In fact the Celts were supposed better metallurgists than the Romans but as their armies or peoples weren't as organized or professionalized they lost.
Likewise Carthage was a trade Republic that didn't sport as strong of a military or drive for war. Even Hannibals army was heavily reliant on foreigners and mercenaries.
The Greeks were weak and lacking a strong universal hand. They mainly fought and lost alone against an enemy with vast resources they couldn't hope to match.

A common misconception. I won't write an essay piece to back up MY claims to the opposite but suffice to say they were quite militarily active as a people. The usage of mercenaries comes largely from a more limited core manpower and a very high wealth concentration. The romans themselves had incredible amounts of manpower. Especially when you look at what happened at Cannae and the aftermath where instead of capitulating they were like....."well that sucks, call up some more recruits and lets build a new army". Carthage, on the otherhand, had a large population of libyans and other non Carthaginian people's. While many of them did serve in the army as well as very well equipped citizen forces also, the bulk was made up of mercenaries.Kamos wrote: Carthage was a trade Republic that didn't sport as strong of a military or drive for war.
Other than that the rest of your post is great. You are right in that the celts had incredible iron-working techniques and it wasn't until later in the time frame that they developed a more central, feudal system but by then the romans were knocking at the door. Caesar played some masterful diplomacy and basically fought the tribes against each other for a large part of the Gallic Wars.
Anyway, that's enough ranting about my favourite topics. I don't have any sources to hand to back anything up unfortunately; so feel free to accept what I say on good faith for now.

My vote for Chinese repeating crossbow or Greek fire.

Well that's sort of what I meant about Carthage. They lacked a strong central military based around Carthaginians themselves. Hence they had to employ mercenaries, Iberian, Gauls and Numidians among others. It's hard to pull up an army from that like what the Romans could especially when they lost Iberia, the Numidians switched sides and Gauls weren't readily accessible(though still present throughout the war). Had they a strong central core of Carthaginians as the Romans had a strong core of Romans they would have fared better.
