a bad upcoming feature?
i was looking some old updates and i found THIS

*Limb amputation, and robotic replacements

Now, robotic replacements? i hope chris doesnt do that, that breaks the theme completely

Well, i have no idea how recent the Faq is, but that states this:djfabiokk wrote:i was looking some old updates and i found THIS

Severed limbs? Will there be severed limbs??!!!1!1!?
II am still thinking about this, I have a way but it may damage performance, and I need a feasable way for limb replacement in a game world too low-tech for robotics.
It MIGHT be a feature worth including, if it only happens rarely (For example, when a limb hits -75. Organs that hit that level are dead, and it should be quite possible to rest before that ever happens).
but what i mean is, we cant have a simple musket, but we can have robotic legs ? that its not good at all.
If chris said no to the musket, then how are we going to get robotic limps?
if we can have robotic limps that means that we could have beam guns, bazookas etc... That would break the whole game theme, Maybe a wooden leg? like pirates? that would be even better dude.

I actually have to disagree. I would actually really like robotic limbs (I'd love for blood and limb amputation more though, ESPECIALLY BLOOD, I WANT IT BADLY). It kind of adds to the worlds mystery if you ask me. We know absolutely nothing of the Kenshi world and adding robotic limbs would be a really interesting curve ball. Basically implying that it could take place in the future, rather than our present understanding that it is in the past. Also you complain about it ruining the games theme, have you forgotten about very robotic looking doors in the bigger buildings?

.
Read more please. I am not sure you understand the theme. Check out the concept art. Make sure your read Chris's entries on the main site. Maybe even scroll down and read some of the old posts in the forum. Kenshi is a post apocalyptic game ... for example. Robotic limbs have been discussed before, read up on it.djfabiokk wrote:Now, robotic replacements? i hope chris doesnt do that, that breaks the theme completely
Doesn't the Faq already rule robotic limps out anyway? It states that the world is too low tech for robotics, so peg legs, crutches and low quality prosthetics would seem to be the only feasible way to do this. In fact, reading that line again it infers that severed limbs are only feasible if there is an alternative for robotics.
I would love to have a stick instead of my leg, well maybe... only if it doesnt slow you down.
Peg leg in the desert. Hmm better get a land ship instead.
Nah but consider technology to be steampunk in design. Crude haggled together pieces of work pumping by clumsily after the apocalypse.
Could be there is no substitute for gunpowder in the Kenshi world anymore.

Well, water in planned, maybe in the full release there will be some kind of ship or boatKamos wrote:Peg leg in the desert. Hmm better get a land ship instead.

I like this idea. It only makes sense that in a gritty setting like Kenshi, people would be trying to use technology to their advantage.Kamos wrote:Peg leg in the desert. Hmm better get a land ship instead.

The robotic replacement would fit very well, and I'm kind of looking forward to it. Saying that it's "doesn't fit" is just wrong. Kenshi has a very, as Kamos said, steampunkish design with things like wind generators. Robotic limbs wouldn't be that far off and muskets can well be left out, anachronistic technology isn't that new a thing in fiction.
And if Kenshi is in fact post-apocalyptic it could mean that the more advanced robotic placements(assuming there would be quality differences) aren't manufactured anymore, but scavenged instead.
I'd like to see someone sprinting full speed on a sand dune with a peg leg. Peg leg would likely be only a temporary substitute until low-quality robotic counter part can be acquired, as in first aid or something.

steam in a (maybe) post apocalyptic world... isn't all the oil gone already by then?
Well i guess non-combustion heat sources such as solar power, nuclear power or geothermal energy may be used (rip from wiki =P )

You should always proofread carefully to make sure you didn't any words out.

Anyway, perhaps an option to have limbs chopped off (being a one handed swordsman?)... wooden peg legs, sword fused arms etc (would make any medic/robotics engineer combo be more interesting). Doesn't have to be high tech really. I do remember seeing the item "robotics equipment" or some shit like that?

Yeah, there is some crazy shit in this thread.
While Chris has specifically said that the game does not take place in Japan, it has the influence of the far east.(DUH..) And with Asia being the leader in technological ideas and improvements, and this world being partly based upon that, to me it would make some sense to see a crude (almost dwarven like) form of robotics. As others have said steam punk. NICE, Arcanum meets an Asian themed Fallout 1&2... (insert Homer drooling sounds here!)
