Seems like there are a massive amount of new users crawling around Kenshi and losing their forum virginity's by posting gratitude topics etc. If anyone knows exactly how many people bought this game from steam? I'm hearing stories that this was briefly in the top 5 best selling and might be somewhere under number 17. So it must have been a shit ton. I know Chris would know but I doubt he'd reply to this thread
[EDIT:] Kenshi is currently number 30 best selling not friggen bad at all.

Well, at one point before steam keys from desura, etc were working on steam, I saw 715 unique players playing. Who knows what the actual number is, more than likely higher.

Sweet not bad 15 dollars a pop and around 715 buyers (more but we only know that so far) that's around 10,725? Maybe I probably did the math wrong.

Let's get Chris 5,000 more people so he can add another programmer.

Jesus dude, you've only been on the forums for about 2 days, and you're already telling Chris to change his development method based off of money?

... I don't even.

That makes less sense than my posts do and the MANY jokes that are told around here! Well not really sense, I just don't find them funny.

"Jesus dude," I didn't need to have been here for more than 2 days to read all of Chris' posts. I suggest you do that before trying to criticize folks and claiming authority as forum veteran. I read two posts (referenced below) in which Chris expressly stated that once the game brought in more money, he would be hiring contract programmers and artists. That is why I said it's our job to get more people to buy the game, so he can hire folks *in accordance with his existing plans*.

Refer more people and donate more, and I will forgive you.

Nice that you dug up a topic that had lay quiet for 2 weeks just to keep the flame going. But perhaps we can stop this now before things escalate.

The "veteran's" replay was more provocative than the "2 day guy's."

Way to keep your cool zalts. It would indeed be nice to see some more people working on Kenshi, I agree.

I also see OP as well meaning in trying to find out if the increased sales are enough for Chris to hire some help. Pulling the "you-haven't-been-long-enough-on-the-forums-to-ask-questions"-card is just uncalled for.

I also am curious as to how many have bought the game since it started selling through Steam. I bought another copy yesterday in support, and gave it to my oldest son. This project is just too good not to support.

Yeah I vaguely remember reading those too. I know Chris plans to eventually hire more people. I was out of line, sorry. But do remember that Chris will finish Kenshi regardless of his financial standing. It is his personal project which he has vowed to complete. (I had another line here, but it was kinda depressing, despite trying to be inspirational, so I removed it).

As far as giving more money goes, I bought one of the special editions, and may later upgrade to a special-er edition. I also bought a copy of the game for a friend.

I imagine that Chris will outsource what is necessary when he feels it appropriate. He previously stated after he was greenlit that he would be treating the income as a temporary boost, but with the advent of the Early Access sales I imagine he is examining the best way to apply any labor hired on temporarily. Previously (during the Indiegogo campaign) Chris mentioned that he wanted to buy the rights to an audio engine, and I am sure that hand to hand combat animations are fairly high up on the priority list.

Let's keep the discussions civil, and trust Chris to continue to do the job he has done so well thus far. As for time elapsed since date of registration, it is impossible to know exactly how someone lurks on a forum, and whether or not they adopt a "read more, post less" philosophy. Granted, we've received quite a few new members lately. With all the new members joining us it will be best for the community if we learn to accept their input and attempt to help them acclimate to what has been a fairly small community. Bear in mind that it is difficult to read tone in text, as such what may seem like a snarky quip can come off as fairly unpleasant.

As for addressing the question of just how many new members have we received since the Steam Early Access was implemented, I would say many since Marsh 27th may not have joined our community otherwise. Approximately 125 people or five pages of new members have expanded our roster considerably. As for the number of copies sold, a more important issue might be to determine what the average sales numbers will look like in a month. Here's hoping that Kenshi sales volume retains a substantial increase.

I'll admit, I do see a certain admirable human quality in folks watching out for Chris, which was Tol's apparent intent. We're backing him socially and financially, encouraging him to continue moving forward as well as preventing any potential discouragement from the riffraff, which someone trying to tell Chris how to run things might end up doing.

Since the topic came out, I'll also admit that though I won't do so out of respect, I do have a desire to encourage the hiring of more folks and quicker than Chris probably intends. Though it's admirable that he's willing to spend a decade of his life on it, and that he has done so much and so well on his own, and changing these variables might of course negatively affect everything, I have my own vision of him leading a team, and making a hundred superb games, not just the two he has is mind. Chris has a unique mind, drive, creativity, and vision; if he could spend more time using those, and less time wrestling with programming expressions, I feel the world would be a better place. Beyond donations and referrals, I'd invest in such a venture.

And this kids is how a flame war starts. However, for a REALLY big flame war, go to Youtube.

From what I have read the "flame-war" is resolved, done. Any related "flame-fanning"/throwing after this post will be open to Moderator actions.

Of that 2659 members, over 200 have joined since late march. Lots of new faces, should make conversations more lively.

So many new threads opening up. i don't even read everything anymore. The small town feel has gone. Need some time to readjust myself to loads of new people and convince them who's boss all over again. 8-)
