I agree there are a metric ton of things I'd rather see on the upcoming projects list before this, but that doesn't preclude it's consideration, or discussion. Sheesh Claw, you're sounding like it's you who'd have to draw the stuff, for free.

A thing I may not be grasping is, beyond the single project head/owner doing as much of the work himself as he can, what is the limitation preventing the creation of models and animations? Are the animations licensed? They don't appear to be multi-figure animations (which would complicate things).

I imagine they were a chore for a fellow who's focus is coding but I'd like to believe he's gonna bring in help eventually. Just shoot for some slightly muted generic eskrima katas (or Punjab, Nito, whatever) with top and side block animations, no need to get fancy.

Yeah, nevermind. Sounds too much like work. ;p

As far as mechanics explanation, I removed that page from my original post, but if you like...

The gist was to let them try. You know as well as I that every other youngster that walks in here is going to make a thread about it for all time, and it's not really outside the theme. Just let them try and see for themselves whether they think it's a viable style. If they really have a hardon for it, they can have a lot of fun with lower skill opponents. It doesn't have to be a big production. Don't bother with a new skill, just slap something like an effective -15 weapon skill and DEX penalty on them per kilo of combined weapon weight. Leave attack and defence alone. Strikes, parries and stamina are on a per weapon basis. Assuming reach is a factor or projected factor in the mechanics, it works pretty solidly on paper, with the exception of that style turning into the defacto god of block mode which would probably have to be examined a bit further, but if you consider eskrima vs longarm styles that's really all they have going for them.

And yes, this gun talk is getting my panties in a bind as well. Screw guns, I want an industrial grade molecular atomizer, with anti-grav, 'cause who can bother carrying that thing around. ;)

Step 1: Read a copy of the book of 5 Rings (It's public domain, so you can probably find a copy online).

Step 2: Implement it.

He specifically mentions that wielding two full size katana is clunky and stupid,, since they get in each other's way, and wielding two wakazashi don't have the ranged needed. If there's a short-version katana, or actual Wakasashi, there you go...

Just shorten the 2nd weapon slot by 1 or 2 boxes, so the only weapons that can fit it, are small or small-medium weapons (using a basic katana as a base-line medium). (Or add another line to the 2nd bar that is slightly shorter...the longer top one for main hand, the smaller for off-hand, and the top slot is for weapons worn on the back (with a toggle to select which slot is the primary used slot).

Unlike most modern interpretations, dual-wielding isn't an offensive technique (unless 1 v 1), it's almost purely defensive and for group fighting (Musashi based his style around it, due to it giving 1 person the ability to defend against 4 opponents in melee, without fully sacrificing offense and leaving openings, and since only 4 people can realistically attack the same target at once in melee with swords...if you could defend against and defeat 4, you could defeat thousands), just with the ability to quickly exploit openings on either side.

Katana already suffer a fairly large defense penalty, dual-wielding a smaller weapon off-hand would simply remove the defense penalty and make them a turtle, much slower to win a fight, but also better able to block and counter multiple opponents, vs say the larger 2hd weapons who due to their bulk can do one or the other dramatically well, but can't transition quickly due to their swing and recovery times.

Are there any plans for a stamina system? That's something I do think the game needs. The warrior's great enemy on the battle field is fatigue. (Based on endurance and modified by athletics), and is a maximum amount that is reduced by both fighting, running (or half rate when jogging), or any movement when carrying heavy loads. Regens slowly while walking, with a moderate or less load or quickly while resting either by sitting down or in a bed).

Cant you just make them from scratch?
I only have a little experience in animation but from what i know you should be able to just add it in.

This is a site that teaches people how to create sprite sheet's. If you guys are unable to create it perhaps the community could post content that you specify we can assist with.
Ofcourse sprite sheets might not even be compatable, i dont know alot about them specifcally so...

Duel wielding was very real back in Asian history Asian art of war never called for a shield so three types of fighting styles were made single-handed blades use by both hands or being able to switch hands or even use the sheath of a sword as a means to block, form this form people saw the chance at using another sword most people believe u had to use a dagger that is not the case short katanas to katanas were able to be used. Duel wielding is a hard style to learn but is very versatile bc people were able to swing twice as fast or block faster and if u were able to deflect a single-weapon style u left ur opponent open for an easy attack,in most case an 2-handed style with a heavier weapon would destroy a duel wielding style and single-handed would win vs 2-handed style and DW beats a single handed.

Chris you said you didn't have a model for the movement but u do have the ground work if u take the commands form when u have the ai's left/right arm hurt the are forced to just use one hand for the weapon couldn't u work form there I know you are busy with more important features at this time

Personally I would love to be able to wield two fragment axes, just to be stupid powerful.

But to get there I feel like you should go through hell to acquire the knowledge, and skill to wield such a thing.

Don't you mean strength and skill?

Yeah, along with actual use of those weapons, before your character becomes good.

Perhaps make it a research item to obtain the ability, or you have to find someone to get the required teaching to perform such a feat. Other wise you would just look like a white Amish man in the middle of rap concert.
