It should be on the download page.

Payment will be up in a few days once I've sorted out some final licensing issues.

Well, your talking about a AAA game with a large team working on it... Im not sure how many people are working on this one, and i havnt been around long enough to speak to the development speed, but theres no way i would ever pay any money for a game in the state this one is currently in.
the game will almost certainly make more profit in the end if the price is lower, as more people will be willing to buy it. If the game becomes popular enough, there will be cracked versions out there and people will just play those if they feel the game itself costs too much. The last thing you want to do is to make your customers feel like they have overpayed... they will just go and tell their friends to get a game, but to only pirate it because it wasnt worth it. Basically, more money will be made if the price is lower.

You're assuming the non-crash beta version will cost more than 10$, at any rate $10 is a pittance for me for this game, and since he doesn't intend to gouge himself by giving it away for less now when people will be willing to pay more it seems like the choice is charge 10$ now or don't charge anything now and keep working and charge $10 several months from now.Mattk50 wrote:Well, your talking about a AAA game with a large team working on it... In the end he just has more time to develop that base of people who enjoyed it. If you're spending the money on the game you've tried it and know it's buggy state, or you're dumb and as they say 'buyer beware'.
I doubt anyone who's dropped the money already has buyers remorse, they knew what they were getting into and they very likely don't mind.

Even in the games buggy state, I enjoy it very much.
You've also got to understand.
He needs to know that people are going to buy his game before he sinks 3-4 more years of his life into it.
And in return for insuring him that we will be here, he's charging us a fraction of what it will be.

So for the cost of say 2 quarter pounders with cheese, which I will enjoy for about 20 minutes and will have forgotten about completely in about a day - I'll get something that I will enjoy for at least 20 hours and will remember for weeks or more.
Since hes not a massive game development company with deep pockets, he's having us pay a small fee to get the chance to be alpha testers on this project. He's doing what Microsoft has always done to it's customers, but unlike them, he's not being a d**k about it.
You're entitled to your opinion, but there is a cost point below which selling something no longer is profitable. No matter how many units you sell.

I do hope this game succeeds and the dev makes enough money to have all his hard work come back to him, but based on the success of other games and how my friends buy things i think more people would buy this in its current state if it was at 5$ or so. I genuinely think there would be more profit to be made if there was a different business model.

Well, he can't rightly drop the price now that he's charged people $10 can he?

Did you remember to tell him that the game is an alpha and has only been in it's alpha downloadable stage for 4 days?
