Both have there ups and down,s Katana's attack very fast and block very fast. where as the Heavy weapons have very slow attack speed but can cleave into groups fairly well, along with doing tons of damage, also one of the surefire ways to raise your strength

Good luck with that Dex seems to be one of the harder things to level imo.

Weird, i dont get any dex when i use Heavy weapons. i trained it up via Katana's and he has 75 strength
I am seeing weapon speed multiplier for heavy weapons like Fragment Axe almost the same as katanas on that stats tab. So I am not sure how to see, it seems to me its the weapon speed multiplier that is the inate speed for the weapon and then attack speed is calculated using that and dexterity.windows 98 wrote:Both have there ups and down,s Katana's attack very fast and block very fast. where as the Heavy weapons have very slow attack speed but can cleave into groups fairly well, along with doing tons of damage, also one of the surefire ways to raise your strength
You dont get dex for heavy weapons, you get a ton more str exp though. Look at the Strength xp% modifier I get like 110% with heavy weapons in combat vs 10% with katanas. Dex doesn't show any modifiers for xp % that I can tell.windows 98 wrote:Weird, i dont get any dex when i use Heavy weapons. i trained it up via Katana's and he has 75 strength
But katanas will yield very fast dex exp (probably 110% like it is for str with heavy weapons). Sabers give a lil of both, I think if you look at a weapon and check its cutting and blunt damage that is basically how the xp% modifer xp is split...and I am not sure just saying seems so.
With a cleaver I get dex and str (like 22% str xp versus 10% with just a katana). But I do get some dex levels with cleavers, just not as fast as with katanas.

you have to look at the stats in combat, out of combat the look the same, but in combat the stats for the fragment axe drop by half.
you where saying you where getting dex from heavy weapons, i wasn't lol.

I can confirm that you gain no dex from using Heavy weapons. I have a guy who uses exclusively heavy weapons and is at 68 strength and has the 10 dex he started with when I hired him.windows 98 wrote:Weird, i dont get any dex when i use Heavy weapons. i trained it up via Katana's and he has 75 strength

Generally it's a good idea to acquire a few dozen dex with weapons other than heavy, until you swap to heavy weapons. Keep in mind you're going to gain more of any stat by using the weakest possible weapon of any flavor. When you're training up dex katana, you may want to use the highest end katana you can acquire if it is early in the game. However, late in the game, manufacture the weakest club for heavy you can. Using that in a few battles, especially when you don't have highly skilled teammates behind you, should get your heavy skill up to 20+ a lot faster than anything you were able to do during your Katana training.

yeah, i noticed that my self, that if you try to level heavy weapons skill with a fragment axe, when switching from another weapon it'll take ages if you dont already have proficiency in it.

I feels that Katana's attack very fast as compare with heavy weapons. I am in favor of Katana.

My squad consists of 3 guys - 2 with Katanas, the third is suppposed to go heavy. To give him some dexterity first I equipped him with a ringed sabre (looted from a dust bandit boss) so does already look kinda heavy. The sabre dude outleveled the two katana guys dexterity-wise. So you don't seem to have to go katana.
Judging from my squad members it seems dexterity might level similar to the melee attack skill. Sabre dude has the highest attack skill (44) and dexterity (42). The other ones are at 40/40 and 38/37 (MelAt/Dex). So I think in order to level dex you should give your guy a weapon with a penalty to melee attack (my ringed sabre has -4) because that way you train faster. My other two guys have light katanas (+8 att, -6 def) and they have a hard time improving their melee attack skill (on the other hand their defence has skyrocketed). I additionally equipped them all with large trader backpacks and tin can helmets (-15 combat skills) so they would level faster, which they do. I'm not sure I'll ever unequip the backpacks. While they lower the combat speed, too, they just are awesome (and look funny)!

I use just one man. He's a heavy-type.
He uses police -medium- armour looted from a dead united cities policeman. He takes on groups by himself as evidently I only have one man, and he destroys them. Sure it was difficult at first, but his strength shot up after giving him a heavy club that weighed over 60 kilos.
His stats are now: ( I have only used heavy weapons, the one point in Sabre is because he had his left arm broken in a fight and reverted to his 1 handed club )
Strength: 99
Toughness: 53
Dexterity: 12
Katana: 1
Sabre: 2
Hacker: 1
Heavy Weapon: 34
Melee Attack: 36
Melee Defense: 38
He completely annihilates most groups. He took on a group of 24 Starving Bandits and walked away whilst they didn't. Dust bandits he can take a group down in 2 or three attempts. Assuming the group has over 20 members. Averages around 7-10 per knockout, and his knockout usually lasts around 40-120 seconds dependent on where he is hit. Sand Ninjas have never taken him down, but thats because they usually travel in groups of around 4. Sand Ninja Jounin doesnt stand a chance.
In one hit, he usually sets a limb from 100 to -98 on dust bandits. Hungry bandits immediately go to around -110 or just outright die from the hit. Sand ninjas limbs go to around the same as dustbandits.
He isn't at war with any faction, so I can't tell you details on them.
I have some earlier screenshots if you're interested in seeing 1 hit deaths, or how many he can take down in 1 swing or 1 knockout.
That leads me to my last piece of info, if your strength is ungodly high like his is, you swing heavy weapons SUPER fast. He can swing 2-3 times in the time it takes a dust bandit to swing a katana once.
*EDIT* Also, you DO gain dexterity from heavy weapons. It's just VERY slow. I as you can see I've never used a different weapon but still have a dexterity of 12.
