Some one was asking on the steam forum about a long lost weightless back pack. And the idea of a lighter bags came to me, when he said he wanted it for his medic. Something like a fanny pack, or side pouch that does -1 or zero but has very tiny storage, but stack able for med packs. I also propose if were gonna do new textures anyways a possibility of a harnesses like what the military uses for troops. Something lighter the back pack, and not as combat impairing for critical items, like rations, bandages, etc. This could add a nice visual touch to the game, 100% up to chris how to design them if he we get them, but can add on to the merc feel, make a harness part of the merc set possibly.

Examples of real life harnesses:

And in US boot camp I wore a basic one with 4 magazine and 2 grenade pouches, connected to my belt which had 2 canteens, both with and with out my ballistic armor thing was quite comfortable, and since in boot we don't carry magazines in them we could use them for a lot of stuff, I had a minor wound in training so I kept a make shift med kit in mine, some gauze and bandage pads, along with disinfectant and my hand sanitizer for when I ate. In fact found the exact model I wore:

I think this would be awesome. Perhaps have it take up your backpack slot and have it only able to carry med-kits or splint kits.

I don't like the modern military look. This doesn't feel like the game for it. I'm reminded of 7.62 which had a detailed inventory system with webbing, belt slots and slots to sling rifles on your shoulders and neck, but you don't have to manage guns, ammo, nades and tools in Kenshi. There's only your melee weapon, meds, and possibly loot and materials.

I used the military ones for an example, as I said they could be redone to fit. Maybe just a simple side pouch. You could go with a vintage medical bag, messenger style, or simply make it a strap on pouch. Obviously ones made for magazines aren't gonna work, but you can simply do a new a thing, these just examples of current webbing, as is only side, hip, butt, back or maybe leg pouch are options with the armor meshes we got. S maybe just on pounce strapped to the side, a rear facing pouch not really a great spot for medic pouch, belt mounted one.

Either way the idea is simply to add some diversity, and have it take the back pack slot, just rename it storage slot so instead of light back you can equip a pouch that fastens over your mesh on the lower, back, hip(s) heck you could have it near the hip and over the pants a bit, although it would look ugly with samurai pants. To me having extra storage especially when thirst and hunger put in is gonna be a big deal. I mean the pack mules system right now of one non combat with a heavy trader bag works, but once I need some one to hold loot, some one one to hold food and water, and another for spare med kits, it gets a little overwhelming for the squad wandering the desert with no home base.

I mean right now I got 2 small back packs in circulation just to help with looting armor and pants that are worth something. And with cannibals on the loose put all my valuables on one pack mule feels risky. I mean that would suck if in a good fight I lost the guy holding the food and water, had busted legs, and had to limp to the nearest shelter to resupply and rest. And as is the guy with the trader pack carries all my spare med kits, and hands out basic replacements as needed for my non medics.

Heck I would take a tacky fanny pack if it could hold med kits, and eventually a bottle of water and a ration biscuit. I am just looking for something lighter then a small bag, and looks kind of nice. This is zero rush on this request. just a simple next time your working on new gear and got a second feel free to mull over an ugly fanny pack.

Oh and the jacket with the messed up mesh looks like a vintage army item. The coat itself and the belt that comes with it. Looks like a WWII vintage coat and belt. Same with the small pack looks like a tan vintage pack a solider might have had.

I think food micromanagement will probably be a really simple one like Mount and Blade where you keep a big stack of food and you'll forget about it. I really don't see the need for pack diversity now, maybe that will change with future game development. but for now definitely no. Combat issues are more urgent now, after that I can think of diplomacy, the captive/slavery system and the cannibal system. The bleeding system needs to be balanced again, the AI still has trouble finishing off the crippled and fleeing, a stamina system. And pack mules.

I mean what if I wanted more weapon diversity, say more of medieval straight and heavy blades. That's nice and all but it's really too early. Diversity should probably come in mods after the game system's finished.

Never said put it in now, more like add to back end of road map. Something to think about as the game is progressing not I need it now, more like food for thought. I would rather see sparing put in, ranged weapons more armor, and a bunch more it was just a crazy thought that came up when some one was asking about a non combat - pack that use to be in game.

Actually, the guy who asked where to get that bag pack, aand one who said would like one for his medic were 2 diff persons, second one being me xD, and as you might had guess i do approve this.

Of course military harness might not fit the game, but maybe some can be "adapted" in the style or taken ideas, maybe for sort of instead of have the regular bowman with the arrow pouch in the back, have multiple or just some around the waist, less arrows, but more comfortable to travel.

7.62 screenshot I found:
http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/3595/mp5a4ris.gif

Body armor, backpack, webbing, helmet, belt with pistol, mag and ammo pouch. Game has crazy detail in places such as having to manage gun magazines too, or losing your ability to side roll from prone with a backpack on.

Of course more inventory detail is nice, but it's so low priority right now. Is there a need for it in Kenshi? Maybe, dependent on how Kenshi develops. Meanwhile the police station in Kenshi is still labeled "TRADE."

Dustbitter there is a reason for this be called feature requests, we just ask for them or do suggestions, we do not say make them now xD, nor no one this time said make it fast like in some posts.

That sounds even too much details for that game whatever it is, i dunno if was what Zalzany meant at first, but for me i wouldn t need more details, maybe some improvements might be needed which might result in increase of details, but all i wanted was some extra packs besides bag packs.

Hey guys I was bored with making swords (made one recently but blender isn't getting along with catalyst)
and so preparing myself for armor (in the late future I guess lol) I had a go at making the medic bag with a bit of improvisation and looking at one google image and my bag I take to university lol I came up with this thing.

I went a little overkill on the front buckle XD (I love attention to detail made the belt curve through the loop :D) I still have to finish it up but what do you guys think? , I had a look at the medium sized bag for Kenshi as a guide for size and stuff but I think the belt may have been brought out too wide but I guess if I can get it into the game to test I'll just trial and error till fits.

Nah xD I do 3d modelling in my spare time :P, back when I was doing engineering I did modelling instead of homework and 4 years brought me to that learning the hard way so yeah what did you think about it anyways?

Oh right yeah I guess in a sense I am not really though I mean I play around with the FCS but I don't actually make proper mods maybe one day when I'm free (like the next few weeks) I'll make stuff right now though FCS is giving me problems lol

Edit: Toyed around with FCS, Blender, Ogre Exporter and such only to find out that FCS still doesn't support armor imports because I have a medbag now as a sword broken, wrong placement but when I tried to make it into a proper bag item the mesh wouldn't show up for some reason.

Looks pretty good. It still looks rather big for combat but after all, it's medics bag so he's really not supposed to. And there's no scale so I'm not even sure  But pretty good yeah. :)

And about OP's post, I agree. Vests and small pouches/bags would be good. I know I would throw a normal backpack out of my back if I had a chance if I had to go in a swordfight, even a small one.

Why not a wearable medkit? give it a lot of charges, and no other storage, and blam! your done. The best part is it would be easier to implement, because we already have a craft bench for medkits.

while we are at it, how are arrows and bolts work? will quivers be a wearable item? or will they just be taken out of standard inventory?

Well Phil I agree with you on the whole wearable medi-pack, basically what this is in all honesty but I was going to make it so you just fill it up with medi-packs so its reusable but I guess making it have set number of charges could work too.

Oh and the scale, sorry about the size I tend to zoom in to show detail and well I guess its also my resolution and the fact I use paint to put together the collages lol, anyways here's a comparison for size the blue being a medium sized bag and well the grey one being my bag.
