The multithreading won't fix the slow loading times, what it will do is allow many more characters running around at the same time (ie armies, bigger battles, populated towns). I estimate it will take 1 or 2 months work.
The slow loading times will be fixed when the pathfinding system is revamped, which I am leaving to another contract programmer when I can afford one (because the pathfindng system is mostly a modular system easy to separate from the rest of the code, makes it a suitable job to outsource so I can spend time on the rest).
Also I'll hire a shader guy to code nice shadows and deferred lighting, then I can have a night-day cycle with lit towns.
That all needs money though, and to get the game more popular it needs more playable features. So I'm going to go for option 1 to start with because I think its important for the gameplay, and maybe do the multi-threading after that.

Maybe, but i don't think too many people will bother even checking out the game at all unless it has a few things to do and play around with, much less buy it.Falklaw wrote:Obviously I chose multi threading...
I believe that not only if other functionality comes in and it slows down the systems, we do lose some people (not us die hard zealots!!) who complain about performance.
I mean, some time back there was this huge discussion started by a guy who didn't want to pay for an unfinished product; I bet there are a bunch more people like that out there who might be willing to reconsider if they realised this game has a bunch of interesting stuff to do, and that their money would help out alot.
And didn't Chris say he was going to use the money to hire an artist for the game? Not only will that make the game more beatiful, but you can bet it will draw a bunch of people here, which is nothing but good.
Besides, there's not that much to do at the moment is there, beyond running around recruiting, powering up and beating up people. IMO it would be better to have a game with alot of stuff to do that performs badly for a while, than a game with almost nothing to do and performing just fine. And at that point we'll actually need multi-threading badly, while we can get by without it now.
The way i see it, it's basically a question of whether we want to wait for multi-threading with very little to do in the game, or when we actually have some fun stuff to play around with.
Well, i have no clue how difficult or easy that would be, but i assume it wouldn't be too much more of a hassle to do it later than now, otherwise i don't see why Chris is asking us what we want next instead of just doing multi threading first without asking.Felklaw wrote:Also, we don't know how hard it would be for him to recode after the fact to make it MT compatible.

I look forward to base building and henchman dragging just as long as MT isn't put off too long. (again Kenshi is stable now, but (and as stated by many) earlier implemented MT = joy (but earlier content will attract more people )). Also, night mode will look great when the player is in the desert and can see the lit cities in the distance.

It's good to know that Chris has come to a decision, at least.

Yeah,the Boss has spoken !
I felt kinda strange voting on this poll,because any choice really would have been fine with me.

GREETINGS MORTALS.
*Coughs repeatedly* I really should stop doing that.
Anywho.
I voted for the first option as I have been playing the demo (I know, I'm a cheapskate) and I really want to be able to spend some of my 20,000+ money on something useful or make myself some decent armour.
Another thing I would like to see added soon is the interaction with Military Factions and being able to train with them to get your skills up so you don't have to farm bandits.
Great work on the game so far, I'm glad to see someone so determined!

The great bearded one has already discussed this before announcing it on the front page.
For the front page bit, go to the front page :P I don't think that the other forum goers will leave me unscathed if I quote that nice long wall of text. (It isn't a wall of text to me but still, their wrath is better left for someone else)Chris_The_Great wrote:The multithreading won't fix the slow loading times, what it will do is allow many more characters running around at the same time (ie armies, bigger battles, populated towns). Since beds and healing and stuff is decided and multithreading is probably next I have put my vote into some basic missions/dialouge/whatever as the next, next thing.
I really think that a little bit of dialogue and guidance is much more likely to get some new players in. Even if you only put enough in to pad the demo a bit more. You might be able to suck in some players to the game world so they can feel the natural beauty. Sometimes I feel a little like I am on the outside looking in with very little to actually do. It seems like I can't influence anything. Influencing of course is the whole premise of the game; things are happening and I can step in if I want to see what effect I will have on the world. Or just sit back and watch.
EDIT: I refer specifically, of course, to the bandit attack that you like to quote on many of the information pages. As it stands now these people mean nothing to me because they have 2 lines of dialogue between every member (soldier?) in the village. I would like a little bit of personality and some actual people to like. And some towns that are weak enough to be attacked by bandits without the godly overpowered soldiers defending them all the time. Without that you just have a total war sword fighting simulation.

This is a pre-alpha mind.Blxz wrote:Since beds and healing and stuff is decided and multithreading is probably next I have put my vote into some basic missions/dialouge/whatever as the next, next thing.

You misunderstand, I was merely commenting on the fact that you complained that this is only a combat simulator.
*Insert witty remark here*
It was more of a description than a complaint. And you quoted my entire post so there really is no way to know what you were referring to specifically.
Regardless;
Regardless;
This comment still stands. That's the whole point behind my post. A suggestion on how to improve the game in a thread in which the developer has specifically asked for votes. Makes sense to me.Blxz wrote:A pre-alpha in which the developer put up a poll on what to add next. It has to actually add something to get out of alpha and so thats why I put up my suggestion.

I'd like to get the Physx upgraded....haven't been able to play the game for over a month...
Tried to use the Physx version from the dependency file...but just get an error saying it's an older version than I have on my computer...and I don't know how to erase the newer version to install the older one...

Go to your control panel, the add/remove programs and finally remove phys x drivers (may be called nvidia phys x) that should workaresbece wrote: Tried to use the Physx version from the dependency file...but just get an error saying it's an older version than I have on my computer...and I don't know how to erase the newer version to install the older one...
