Lore surrounding Catan/Capan credits?

I am currently playing around with a fanfic based in the Kenshi universe, but I am having a difficult time finding lore/canon related to Kenshi. I imagine that this is because Kenshi is still in alpha, but if somebody can point me in the direction of a lore repository, I won't have to bother you guys with silly questions like the following:

As the title suggests, is there any set in stone lore about Cats? Are they handled electronically via implants, or are they in the form of cold hard cash?

Any help would be appreciated.

Since catan has been renamed to avoid meshing with settlers of catan, does this mean cats are now caps? Aka, the currency used in the fallout franchise? I don;t think chris is gonna be able to get out of this one :p. The impression i get is that it's supposed to be cash, but it;s gamey because your squad has a single money pool so it can be teleported around and wahtnot.

So far none of the lore is set in stone, and as a matter of fact there isn't much. The only thing i've heard for certain is that the Kenshi universe is not necessarily in our own. This means that the world of Kenshi may or may not be on Earth.

No info on cats. (the currency).

No strict Lore repository in the Lo-Fi forums, nor the Steam forums. Lots of fanfic lore though!

My take on this is that the game would need to be fleshed out almost to it's final stages before lore is added. This appears to be a good logical move, we don't want Kenshi's lore to be like League of Legends, where it started as something, and now nothing makes any sense whatsoever because of all the new content.

but onto the main question.

There is no info on the change of the games currency from cats to caps, think it easier to stay at cats since its now known as part of the currency in Kenshi. There is also no known version of what cats really are. but there is a good chance it could be physical coins because there has been talk about weight of the money but then again Chris has said that there most likely will not be any weight in regard to cats. so in all possibilities it could be electronic since in the future there might be a robot race.

Lore: "Its an alternative world, with no links to reality or earth." thats about all the lore Kenshi has at the moment. and that its not "post apocalyptic"

Chris has said that he will make a history of Kenshi but that its not gonna be to involved and let the player create most of it. ( least if i remembered right )

Cool for that as long as it stays not post-apocalyptic; people just keep assuming it is and for some reason that annoys me

Thanks for the responses! I have decided to mantain the desert setting as it is the current milieu of Kenshi, but will be setting my fanfic on a different landmass so that I can have a bit more creative freedom without the need to predict or adhere to what the devs have in store for the game itself. Everyone wins !

From what I recall, there will be at least 4 other biomes, including a swamp, in the future, so you won't be relegated to just a desert.

cats = Copper as trading supplies.

I asked someone what would be considered a token of appreciation, in which they said cats. The fourth dialogue option for me was "copper.." The secret is out!
