Non-combat? Hahaha! Not in my squad bucko! But if you know how to heal people, i give you a hood. If you know how to build stuff, you get an iron hat. And Cowboy wears a cap cause he's crazy.
My idea is to have 50 seasoned and battle hardened warriors, whatever else they may do, they have to be able to fight. That way I don't have to waste my time guarding the soft bodies. So far I have 20 people in my squad, and won't go higher until the twin glitch gets fixed. But no matter what they start out as they all have about 30-40 in the attributes and attack and defense, and we eat Dust Bandits for breakfast. I have 2 scientists with 50 science, and one really awesome warrior/medic who's at about 60 in medical.
I built this group pretty slow, and restricted myself to skilled characters only - i.e. warriors, medics, and engineers. They all seem to fight about the same, with a few lagging behind the average, and the first five exceeding it (especially athletics). Its a heavy armor squad, but now that they all have a decent strength I'm starting to adopt lighter armor as I find it - and i really like armored rags, it's almost the same protection as merc plate with less hindrance and the skill bonus negates the small pack penalty.
I plan on switching these 20 over to light armor, and starting a second squad that will be the heavy armored group. Those guys will permanently stay at my yet un-built base and hold down the fort, while the other group uses stealth and light armor and travels around adventuring. For now, I just keep everyone together cause it's the safest thing.
Since I am playing the Holy Sword beginning, we are going to wipe out the holy nation, and we have already killed everyone in eyesocket
