Heya . Idea is pretty simple .

On one hand we have corpse disposal , Give short burst of 10 energy while making dead corpse disappear and make everything disappear (Where metal go?)

On second hand we have furnace . Consume 20 energy , Transform pieces of stuff into raw iron , of destroy them if only made of cloth. Slow with a small inventory.

So here the idea :

As metal pieces give all a raw metal amount , Give cloth armor a heat amount , because ninja rags will burn more than a cap.

Lets call the new building a Recycler . You put dead bodies in it , It use the bodies and cloth armor as fuel , and it turn the metal pieces into raw ore.

Each tier of Recycler come with better stocking place for both metal pieces and Fuel. Corpses go directly into fuel , dont get stocked

Other idea which seems to be a little more tricky to code i guess, would be : Metal left but no more fuel -> Take energy. No more metal but fuel left -> Give energy as long as fuel is there.

other idea would be to keep the Furnace the same way it is but create a complex script that :

Search on all lootable ennemies (inconscious or dead ) , metal objects , take it , then bring it to furnace , before switching it on

An easier option that follows the current setup of things is to have a looter job. that person will loot the bodies of all the dead and dying and take the loot to a storage bin specific for looted items (lost and found). Then you would have a short time to pick through it before the person working the furnace comes and puts it in the fire.

Or you could have the person who is picking up the dead bodies to burn, could loot them first and leave the stuff on the ground, then the looter would pick up the loose items and store them or recycle them.
