So I spent some time in the forums and found a few reports of the walls causing problems, but nothing exactly like what I'm experiencing.
I've built an outpost near Trader's Edge, and used the mountains as a natural wall. When finally building the walls to completely surround my outpost, it allows me to place the walls to be constructed, but my engineers were unable to get to the exact location to allocate materials so the walls could be built. Now up on higher grade elevations that are considered impassable terrain isn't a problem, I understand that doesn't work for a number of reasons, so those I've dismantled. I'm also aware of the pathfinding bug issue when deleting/dismantling walls, and that's not this either.
The walls are simply unbuildable, despite being in a very clearly open and relatively level area. They're placed, and they're reachable, in fact my engineers actually stand right in front of them when attempting to place the materials to start construction, but they are simply unable to reach what I imagine is the notated location that allows them to "reach" the structure.
I've reloaded, used the remeshing for pathfinding (which also left me with an eternal "loading" on my screen, not that it affected anything) and I've dismantled/cancelled construction and tried again over the same spots to no avail.
Again, I know walls have been a point of discussion in the past, and I'm aware of MOST of the current problems these cause, but no one has mentioned anything like this that I've read. I can provide screenshots if that helps clarify anything.

this is known as well
the main issue seems to be when you lay your walls from left side of the gate onwards, whereas building from the right side seems to really have no issues.
this also pertains to not just wall building but also chasing after bandits and them getting hung up near one of your left handed wall segments. rendering you unable to attack them. i reported that one a while ago.

I actually haven't had any bandits attack since I put up my walls. Which has been slightly disappointing, really, since my men are finally decked out in the best stuff I can make but have no one to use it on. But you said it's the left side of gates that don't build, but I don't have gates on my walls. The game said I couldn't place them because the ground wasn't level, so I just dismantled a couple portions as exits and entrances, like how the towns have.

sometime they need a ramp to get up on the wall to place things.
Sometimes I have been able to move them manually close enough to the wall and they started to work on it. they couldn't find their own way there, but worked when I got them close enough.
then there are sections that they just wouldn't touch until I dismantled then and rebuilt them.

There were 2 sections where they moved up the ramp and built the wall from there, but that wasn't the case with most of the walls they were finally able to build with this work around. They were literally in the exact same spot as before, in fact two of those times they were in the ramp's physical area, and were suddenly able to build that portion of the wall.
I've had problems with dismantling sections and trying to rebuild a section in between two finished walls. It either won't allow me to connect them due to spacing issues or it throws out the uneven ground warning message.
