So it seems like an ongoing issue with people accidently getting locked in at night, because the shop owners like to ignore their presence and just lock the doors..

I've thought of something that should work better than it does right now.

I don't think simply automatically making the character be put outside is realistic, and it limits the player in playable options. I think that when shop closes, the shopkeeper should approach the character (if detected) and open a dialogue box asking you to leave. In that dialogue box, you could choose to respect the demand to leave, and your unit would automatically leave the shop, and the shopkeeper would close and lock the door behind you, or you could chose to resist, which would yield as you would expect - Guards/bounty.

I like it.
They already start a conversation telling you to leave, but if I have the shop window open I often miss that conversation. If he would close that window and the new conversation required me to respond, then I wouldn't miss it.

Since there is already a one sided conversation that they use, it should only require a change to that conversation to make it two sided.

I wonder If I can mod that???
Probably not the put you outside part, but the two sided conversation possibly.
