Low difficulty at the moment
After playing the game for a while, I am having a squad that is practically unbeatable.
It is stated in the feature list, that there would be more dangerous regions on the map, but I guess this is not implemented yet, as I didn't stumble upon those areas up to this point.
As I am playing a good guy (trader that does not attack neutral factions) the usual bandits/nanjas are no match for me anymore, regardles of where I go.
What I think would be cool, was a region that is crawling with enemies, that migrate to less dangerous regions, if you don't put an end to that. Of course, this migration process should take a while, so you have enough time to beating the bandit hordes to the punch and raise a nice and deadly army.
Of course, some regions should stay untouched (noob areas), so that players who don't want to fight bandit hordes are not forced to do so.
In the end we would have:
Noob areas -> Bandits never migrate in great numbers
Normal areas -> Bandit hordes appear after a while the player ignores the hordes
Elite areas -> Bandit hordes in large numbers in the beginning of the game

If its too easy, start to attack some factions. If you like the red paladins up north then go south and attack the blue and yellow guys. Or vice versa.
You are only attacking the weak guys so far. Of course you are right, its not all implemented yet. Chris will be working on multithreading at some stage which will allow a greater number of guys to run around on-screen. This will allow for bigger enemy armies to attack you. As it stands now they are deliberatly small and weak to keep the performance up.

Nah, my troop is the bomb; for a test I attacked one of the faction's squads (Mercenaries) and beat them pretty easily (some of my guys didn't even get injured).
If it is planned to have larger enemy squads once performance is up, then this is good news.
But what do you think about the concept of areas, like explained in the first post? Interesting or not?

i like the idea about having a high level area (maybe an island appart from the mainland, with bad rumours and all)
But aside from that, i dont like the noob and intermediate area idea. It kind of makes the game not totally open-ended, since you will go first to the noob then intermediate area and in general it compartiments the world.
I find that the actual state is the best (without making different areas).
I like the fact that while playing i can kill a dozen bandit-squads in an area and then get beaten the crap out by a passing high-end bandit group.

i like it but then again i think of WoW with the starter zones where it was a bunch of noobs doing the noob quests then you go to the not so noob area etc etc.
the idea of an elite area would be better as it would give those who want to try it something to do. it is a strategy game as well so having high level mobs roaming throughout would add to the strategy part of it.

how about a faction that starts at high leves and just gets stronger that also has encampments in each reagion (the size of the cities it attacks would reflec the size of camp) that is always against you and the other fractions. this would give you an enemy that is strong and it gives would a better reason to get stronger so that oyu cuold attack the encampments than just i wanna kill a holy servan that is guarded by 5 others servants and a paladin. (this is just an example of what people might look for in a goal)

Don't follow... an enemy that has outposts of different level mobs but all related to one giant faction? As you get stinger and venture out further they get stronger?wolfwood296 wrote:how about a faction that starts at high leves and just gets stronger that also has encampments in each reagion (the size of the cities it attacks would reflec the size of camp) that is always against you and the other fractions. this would give you an enemy that is strong and it gives would a better reason to get stronger so that oyu cuold attack the encampments than just i wanna kill a holy servan that is guarded by 5 others servants and a paladin. Good points, all of you.
Makes me think, that imposing something on the player in an open ended sandbox scenario is really bad design in general. But what if we could actually have scenario options, like when you start the game, you can choose to actually have a lot of high level mobs running around or have some strong evil faction in the game; or not. That would satisfy most people, I think -> good for power gamers and casual gamers.
With procedural techniques, this shouldn't be rocket science to implement.

option a - no enemy factions. just bandits and the friendly factions.
option b - same as a but with a northern faction.
as the options go down from b c d e you add more and they are at war with each other as well. so during your game they could be destroyed by an npc faction while you have done nothing.
are you always at war with them though? or can you attempt to gain a neutral status then eventually friendly with them by killing the current friendly factions or the opposing enemy factions?
Seems like having a few bandit camps sitting around could really kick your ass. Being a much more organized group they could churn out more elite bandit units with more skill and better equipment from raids. By the time you remove them things should be getting interesting between factions or you could be making your own faction which would grant more interesting gameplay than a wanderer beating people up.

no what i mean is an all powerfull faction that has outposts everywhere (not literaly) that would attack all other cities and factions, they would get strongers as we do (if something like training would come out they would train like we would) and become more agressive as the game gets older, if i cites was defeated they would turn that city to rubble and move to another outpost and fight a diffrent city (the survivors of the defeated city would go to another city and help the city prepare for the enitable siege) i'm not going to say to include any of this at once since this would imply cities being taken over and become useless, you would have to be able to build before you use this ideatxfirefighter wrote:Don't follow... an enemy that has outposts of different level mobs but all related to one giant faction? AH ok i get it now. i like that idea! a lot... would be awesome knowing that someone was out there just waiting to march into your city. destroy them or be destroyed.
Not that I agree or disagree; but doesn't this go against the design ethos that chris has been building towards? From what I can tell he specifically wanted none of the enemies leveling as you do and big story driven things. Forgive me if I have read your comments badly, its early christmas morning and the girl hasn't woken up. I'm still groggy.

i don't what chirs has in store for kenshi but i'm just adding something that would create a big challenge at the begging and mabye an even bigger challenege at the end, i think if this idea was really like there could be an option at the begging of the game to decide whever or not you want to have them in the game.

Sorry about the forum siege(And for the slightly off topic discussion) but..
I can already picture an ad for the game.

Back on track: All in due time, the factions won't level up with you(Or they might, sort of depends on how Chris implements it) but you can bet that there will be forsaken areas and Factions bent on ruling the land between Brink and the island of Habib.

My main concern at the moment was more with replay value/challenge. At the moment, it is not very challenging building up a strong squad in a short amount of time, if done correctly (and by that I mean not exploiting the current game engine, as some people suggested in other threads). This is also due to the mentioned small enemy groups, that are (probably) being enlarged when performance is better. You can fairly soonish pick off all the enemy groups running around.
Now I understand that extra challenge lies in attacking the neutral factions, but that is actually not something I like, as there is no real benefit (aside from good loot) there at the moment.
I was more just tossing around ideas of what I would like. If Chris likes it too, I would be happy if he uses it. If not, tough break for me.

When food/hunger is implemented, the bandits will need a town for them to buy it right, they can't go to normal towns for merchants... Think of it as the equivalent of Tortuga for the pirates.
So that town would be a stronghold with badass defence.
