I think we were envisioning something that would add additional facets of tactical behavior rather than another hindrance to begrudgingly micromanage.

But I am aligned with your intentions and trust your judgement on how best to fulfill them given how amazing the game already is.

Your input is most appreciated.

Thank you for your time and effort, good sir.

Captain Deathbeard wrote:Fatigue is not planned and was in fact never planned in this sense. The fatigue I had planned was the short-term type, ie getting out of breath from fighting or running for too long and needing to rest briefly.

Currently all the advantages you propose from adding long-term type fatigue are already in the game or do-able without a sleep requirement. NPCs already go to bed, or can be nocturnal etc. Making the player need to sleep I think wouldn't add anything fun and would just be more micromanagement and even restrictions on gameplay.

Same reason I'm not going to add thirst, because it's something mostly already abstractly covered by the hunger system, adding another bar is probably removing more fun than it gives back.

The important goal I hold to is adding complexity and difficulty while still minimising tedium and micromanagement. It's important to maintain a balance.
I hate to stir a pot that's already been washed out, but with the knowledge of Player-Fatigue being done and discussed with as a Fine No, I can understand. - But what about outside of city NPCs, such as bandits and such?

I can concede the problems and the tiring micromanagement of having to mess with your characters, especially if you have a lot.

But, what about the case for outside of city NPCs? Is it possible that that be given AI to set up camp, go to sleep, have limited guard, such and so? -- This achieves what I was mainly going for with this suggestion. It breathes that life into the game that I was talking about by making the world feel more real in the way that they, others than yourself, must rest (Even if there is no detrimental effect to them not, simply for aesthetic and the opportunity it brings to players.)

I am very sure in the future that we will see a lot of Factional AI as well as dialogue packages that will increase this games' appeal exponentially for those who enjoy RPGs - This is just a touch of flavor that I believe would be interesting to see. (Campfires and huts/mats with the patrolling squads taking their rest, healing others, training even. . There's a lot you could do to.)

My last 2 cents.

I personally support Fatigue being a thing so long as it can be done well. i also support 'thirst' as a thing.

because they can add to the difficulty, which to me adds to the fun. and it creates a fair dynamic and builds on the fact we are living beings. that we aren't some how the immortal chosen one who can do whatever he or she wishes without constraint.

Sure watching your avatar sleep isnt fun but theres no reason that they have to sleep for long periods of time. an theres no reason that there can't be ways to improve fatigue to make sleep less needed.

my idea for fatigue was instead of adding a bar.

There could be a slider on your 'blood' bar. that sorta functions as 'stamina' in a sense.

and the way it would work is , you would have a space above your max blood, and if your blood/activity level becomes so strenuous that it fills up that area over your base blood level. that your character would have to take time to relax/slow down . now he could do this sitting, walking , or simply taking it 'easy'. this would give an indicator of fatigue which i think is realistic.

But also if you were in a cold environment , your blood could slowly start falling and you might eventually collapse due to your "heart" not pumping out enough blood to keep you standing. your collapsing from cold point , would obviously be based on your clothing , and being near sources of heat should be enough to gradually raise your blood back to a 'healthy' level.

obviously the rate at which your blood rises, should be based on your characters overall health.

which would be effected by things like their nutrient level. and their athleticism(potentially other stats). since people who work out, eat properly can generally work harder an longer than people who don't.

it obviously needs some tweaking to be a fully fleshed out idea. but i thought this would be a good way to introduce 'fatigue' without characters having to sleep.

"sleep" could simply help your character Raise, or Lower the blood level back to the norm. if its low , then sleeping could help you warm up by conserving energy , and arguably from using blankets.

and if its high, it could lower it by reducing your heart rate back to a health rested level. obviously this wouldn't apply to Skeletons who have no blood. but it could apply evenly to all living things.

I was starting to get worried there that necrolepsy might become a plague in Kenshi! :P

Ehhh, the Master Dev has spoken and he doesn't think this would actually bring any fun to the player - and I can SEE his point of view, though I differ in thought. It is a game being made in the way that they desire. . So that is really that.

all that we have to do is converse :p after all the whole poitn of a suggestion form is to come up with ideas. and if they truly want us to give ideas then the least they could do is allow us to talk about ideas. an try to persuade them that a specific feature might actually be fun. and be able to fit without being boring , or taking away from the fun.

After all isn't the whole point of a suggestion board to atleast consider ideas ?

Fair enough, I just know that WE are not the Creators of the game and I don't know how solid OUR VOICES are in its' development. It's obviously gone been mapped out in such a way that the Master Dev envisions and I hope that it is good - I am trusting that.

So, I'd say for now, Stamina/Fatigue is off the list for players.

I have made a separate thread about it strictly affecting NPCs during night time and I think that may be the best compromise, as well as really does what I desired to begin with. Even if players don't have a resting factor, at least the world is breathing and alive when outside of city NPCs may have scripts to lead them to bed, or onto the attack.

There's certainly more discussion here.
