I'd like to see an option to spar with a squad member. Right now you can effectively do that with a future squad member by capturing people and fighting with them in a controlled environment, but that's kinda clunky.

Plus, sparring just makes sense, realistically. It'd be cool to have a tower of monks or something training by hitting each other with staffs. :)

Been thinking about that pretty much since day 1 of playing the game. Very sensible, would make a slow and steady process of leveling attack and defence for both opponents. I assume, since combat is a bit random, there will be some fluctuation in progress, but it shouldn't be anything dramatic.

Is that still a confirmed plan? I don't know, but I definitely would like the ability to spar. I mean, in the real world, no one trains their martial arts / weapon proficiency by getting beaten up by a bunch of bandits & left for dead... only natural we can train in our own time - beyond the limitations of the dummies.

I wanting similar things. I was thinking whether I should post the same request. (I am glad that I saw this before it.)

but What I'm wanting is simple checkbox "Allow attacks on team members (team members)"

In the past, Japanese samurai sometime practiced with shrpe edged katana. Of course, in order to avoid injuries, practice with a wooden sword is normal (but still often fatal), it is maybe an exaggerated story, and rarely thing. But I think that it matches the world of Kenshi.

skills training will need to corresponding risk, if you thinking like it, I agree it. As I looking these post, what dev plan make DoJo is build as facility, probably not a risk of injury. If so, I can understand reason upper limit is low. On the other hand, I wanting training method that corresponds to a high level, with the risk of serious injury.

This may cause character to lose them arms and legs if player do not prepared properly. Thinking this way, in this case, You should make the defense skill upper limit proportional to dealing damage of training partner. (and, thinking about the upper limit of attack skill is difficult to me. If it is proportional to risk, it should be inversely proportional to the defense of the receiver side. However, in training, skill is well improves better if the recipient side defence skill is good, so I think it is unnatural. But then risks and effects will not be balanced)

This can be applied in battle with enemies. (I think you already noticed) In other words, I think that the effect of Edged katana training is be exactly the same as fighting with enemies. And in training of Tatsujin, training partners have a corresponding risk of life. (same as enemy challenging him) This is what I really want.

The problem with DoJo type training though is that if full contact would be be allowed, then there's practically no reason for players to leave their base, since they can just duel 1 on 1 till they reach 100 in skills. It's kind of realistic, but i've heard that Captain doesn't want us to sit in our bases for too long. Plus, you probably won't be able to spar anywhere as current friendly NPC's AI would probably recognise it as an assault, so it will also reqire some work as well.

Not that practice weapons would magically solve all the problems either, technically it's still a weapon, and there will still be a duel, so the questions of overall balancing are the same.

The seemingly most sensible way is to implement sparring with dummy weapons though. *Fantasy Flight Mode ON* They would raise all the related skills up to 30. One of the fighters however would have to be above those skills, to serve as a mentor. Sparring could be done anywhere but closed lit environments are the best, since friendly NPCs would still sometime recognise it as a troublemaking. *Fantasy Flight Mode OFF*

But i guess it's much more easier to say then do :)

Indeed, it is correct...

However, summarize these problems, I think solution are visible about these points.(maybe)
  • Training with capable stay on Base
  • Judgment of "attacking to friendly" and counterattack to it
imo, It is good to keep these as it is. In other words, even if for the training, if their fellows began to fight with real weapons(meitou!?), everyone will think to they are crazy! losting sanity!! It is a totally natural response.

This means this "Duel training" requires the following conditions.
everyone can not see (not noticed)  + Outside the base, far away

The remaining problem is, "How far should be leave?" I think this will be by how far battle noise will be noticed. At this time, friendly will can't notice, but by other side, will attract the enemies. (Of course, this training itself is danger of heavy injure to character is great)

The scenes imagined from these are very dramatic. (Or am I just a romanticist? :? ) Also I do not want "practice weapons". (but fantasy wants little, yeah, I am romantic as well... ) If seeking the ultimate in skill, everyone need commit the risk of life. With "practice weapons" it is impossible, it will not be a ultimate training. Players will also be struggling to bring up the teacher's side to that level. And same as, students will not be able to withstand training unless they are raised sufficiently. (For this reason players also struggle again)

I'm sorry. After all, please think that this is a romantic dream... I'm sorry....

Easiest thing here would be add new building arena-like (or any build but marked as arena, but i would love some new buldings). You can spar there with ur squad members but its not generating any XP. Would be only for rpg and fun.

Thats ofcoz something different then Dojo. And about dojo... that would be awesome but i bet training time should be quita high.
Affected by: lets say... difference level betwen master and student(s), lvl of a student (high lvl should take lot of time), lvl of Dojo building? items inside? New skill: teaching - self explanation.
Sorry for my bad english.

I forgot to write this.

Even in the current game, sparring is possible within the base by abduct the enemy. Currently I use this in the game, but there is almost nothing risk. This was one of the reasons I trying to Suggestion. I think this should not be forgotten.

it's just fighting against enemies to the game program. From this point of view, matching the risk of sparring with the upper limit of acquirable skill is also a countermeasure against this way. Whether that opponent is enemy or friend, in the same way skills need to rise. In this regard it is important to think about how to have training to fight among with friendly.

Here's two solutions to the "staying home and sparring all day" problem.

1: The maximum skill cannot exceed the higher of the two sparring characters' skill levels. This means that once everyone has the same skill level, you need to get some real-world experience.

2: Add time-sensitive reasons to leave the base, so that if you stay at home all day, you'll miss out.

"Go to see strong guy than me" 8-)
This is suitable for the purpose of a general advencher. (Not limited to sparring) If so, the reason for fighting against a strong enemy is not limited to reward or items.

Capless training by sparring doesn't make much sense, it's not diffirent from actual combat then, and then there's all the less reasons to go out. Not that it's bad, and i tink we should be able to incubate our nation however we like, but since sitting around growing your crops is against the Captain's creed, we have to keep that in mind.

So, seemingly best way is still to just cap it at 30 in atk \ def \ weapon skill, and requirement of a mentor stronger than that.

I'm still preferring the "dojo" scenario, in which there is a "master" that settles the cap with his own skill level and is "master" as long as he has a dojo work. Problem is that it requires to create 2 kinds of "use" for the dojo: the "master" role and the "trainee" role.

The dojo solves many of the problems exposed here.
