So this is a bit of a weird one I found while messing around with a vendor's inventory.
First I sold 3 Skeleton Muscles to the vendor (priced at 2193)

Second, I noted that to sell one of my Generator Cores, I'd need to buy something from the vendor, like a piece of cotton. I quickly moused over the vendor inventory, and...

right clicked on cotton. Upon further inspection, I noticed my money had dropped quite a bit, and vendor's money had increased quite a bit.

After doing some quick math, I found that the vendor price had gone up, the same as mine had gone down, the same as the price of a Skeleton Muscle, which I had just sold to the vendor. Upon right clicking the cotton in my inventory to sell it back, the money went back to normal.
With immediate retesting, I managed to reproduce it a couple of times. Best I can figure is that it might be due to the tooltip taking a moment to load. It only reproduced when I quickly moved the mouse from my inventory into the vendors to buy. If I had been paying less attention, I'd have ended up buying a single piece of cotton for 2000 cats extra...
[0.95.24.1]Buying Price Skews Based on Sold Items
okay I thought I was just nuts but now that you mention it, I have seen this before as well. It was back when food was more expensive. I was able to buy several food items for a tenth of the cost, but when I checked them in my inventory and tried to by some more the price was back to normal. So I though my math skills were just severely lacking.
