Here is a thought. Maybe Chris can create a team fortress style speciality item store. Instead of buying multiple copies of the game the forum users can "buy" Kenshi "fun dollars" (i.e. spend a certain amount of money and receive kenshi points) in which they can use to "purchase" crazy fan items for the game. ( the item comes in the form of an online update maybe. Crazy fan items could be (like earlier posts said) bees, jar of *CENSORED*,compass, silly hats, un-lockable body add-ons (Beards and tattoos). and so fourth. If this idea is done then technically Chris is not receiving "donations", but rather selling people forum points to unlock custom crap for the game. This would also be a less costly way to obtain more donations, and would reward the buyers with something unique rather than multiple copies of the game. So if Chris started a Team Fortress style page where we can trade Kenshi Points for downloadable items, it would be an inexpensive way to generate more money.
-Less expensive than creating actual merchandise (I would still buy a LoFi games shirt though

-The people donating would have something other than multiple game copies (accumulating Kenshi points)
-Supports in-forum humour by adding buy-able items (Like bees, hats or Limited Edition Capitan DeathBeard Beard (Usable at character creation)).
-Allows the acquisition of donations.( Instead of donations it is Kenshi Points).
-So much money donated yields so many points. (Like a phone card).
-Seriously though my characters need beards
