Would love to be able to set a character to essentially bodyguard a building, but with a bit of a boosted radius to it.
Would be fantastic for guarding farming areas, towers with turrets on top, etc.

A generalized waypoint system would helpful for this.
Shift right click adds a waypoint, character will try to stand at that spot if doing nothing else. Shift right click adds a second one, and the character will patrol between both, and so on, and so on.

There should be a "Patrol" option, too, on the right-click menu that will have the character patrol within a radius of where it is assigned, or the outpost that character is in. Might be better to have a second, "Patrol Outpost," option for that, though.

Farms may already be guarded at least by farmers. What about towers with turrets on top? You mean guarding a guarding tower?
I like the mattk's idea about waypoints though, which may also be combined with a patrol option: first waypoint will assign spotguard, others will set patrol route.

I was surprised that this game did not have a patrol way point feature as it seemed to be the kinda game that would kinda lend itself to guards/ patrols being a thing.
