Failed to activate Kenshi

Bought on steam and used the key provided to activate non steam version and says "failed to activate kenshi". I searched forums and seems common problem but did not find any answers.

I want to control mods out of steam workshop, its way too much hassle to get some from workshop and some from nexus mods and try to merge together in some kind of code stew. I thought it would not be a problem since I got an activation key ><

Steam has a dedicated folder system it uses for its mods
so you have to move them to the kenshi directory to get them to work when playing offline.
and you should have no problem just running the game from the folder.
