We >NEED< gum trees, start selling gum to wandering nomads, gum farming!!!
Maybe weed farming? Doubtful, but poss.
Also, if it's some kind of Japan/Western movie setting, it NEEDS either Poppy(opiets) farms, or Tobacco farms.

Japan used to love it's heroin. (which is an opiet)

I realise I spelt opiet wrong, I can't spell, shoot me for it.

that is something that would be needed too since it is used as a pain killer, but since its also a drug give it a chance to make a user addicted to it.

Ok to clarify, yes the fast travel was planned to be somewhat like fallout and I would quote Chris' post if i could find it but it was actually planned to be like Fallout 2 ;) For those who haven't played the game it consists of going to the map, clicking a point to fast travel to and instead of getting there instantly; you actually watch as your marker slides across the map, with a large chance of a random combat encounter.

If you are interested in reading it yourself, look at the top couple of paragraphs in this article. :)

Are you referring to this quote from Chris? "animals and *CENSORED* need models, animations, new code, and then to fit into the combat system. Its a big job and far down my list at the moment."

Chris was not saying that animals wont be included, he is actually saying they are on the list. Which is kind of the opposite of saying 'no' to farm animals. I dont like the idea of large animals, like oxen or horses. I see how that causes problems with the environment he is creating. Pigs, chickens, cats dogs...and even beez would add a lot. Yes, even beez.

But, yes. It would be nice if people read a little bit before starting up a whole 'new idea' thread.

Edit: Growing an illicit and very damaging and nasty drug would be a lot of fun. You could even burn down competition if there was an dynamic economy.

No, not referring to that comment. i can't find it now but it was slightly older than that thread. he mentioned farming. Someone (possibly me) asked about livestock farming and chris said no to that. It is all a bit vague but unless we can find the quote that is all I can offer for the time being, my memory being what it is (general not specific).

Also, to the opium guy. Are you not thinking of China? They loved their opium, it was like crack to them. They even fought a war with britain in an effort to ban imports of it becasue it was so damaging to their society (britain made a fortune selling opium to the chinese so obviously didn't want a ban on imports).

To my knowledge, japan never had a case of wholesale opium importation/use. At least not any more (and quite possibly much less) than any other country in the time. They were more concerned with isolation, at first, and then after Admiral Perry came in it was internal tension, civil war, reformed government and modernisation..... They ARE different countries you know.

How about boats? Small rafts to large barges, you can pay for a ticket/owner of the craft to get you somewhere on the water.
