Just played and finished this game. Not sure if you guys have heard of it or already played and beaten it but its fantastic on the plot level right up until about 5 minutes from the end (at which point it becomes merely a good game). Well worth taking a look at as this is an absolutely spectacular piece of writing in game format.

Here is a link to a Rock, Paper Shotgun 'Wot I Think' article.
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/11 ... -the-moon/

Honestly, if Chris got the chick from the music in this to help in the music department for kenshi, then Kenshi could be a spectacularly moving game, she has talent.

Anyway, that's my off topic plug for the night.

I could only agree. The plot is very moving and will get the most emotional of us to tear up at some moments ;)

Ty for not spoiling the end, had me worried there for a second when you started talking about the end of the game  (haven't finished it yet...)

You probably know this, but I think Chris doesn't want to add music to Kenshi, you should be able to be completely immersed into the game without the help of background music. Not saying he hasn't changed his mind in the meantime.

Actually I really like that. Thing is I don't know where to use it. I don't think I really want in-game music, I want to focus on better atmosphere from the sound effects (like limbo does). And I already have the track from the trailer to use as titlescreen music, though I wouldn't mind using yours too if it was done well.

Sorry for not responding, I am really busy and I get a lot of messages offering music work and samples for the game, so I tend to think "I'll look at that later" and never get round to it.

I am not planning to have any music in the game (if i do, it will be added at the very end). I want to focus on the atmospherics and sound quality, and I find a lot of games use music to hide their poor sound effects. But your work is really good, keep at it and you could be a professional soundtrack composer one day.

True he did say that. But has also said somewhere else that if he ever did decide to include music it would be done near the end and he would outsource because music can be such a fundamental part of any game that he wants it done right. So I am hoping something is done.

I haven't played kenshi lately because I can't get my music player to run smoothly in the background with kenshi and its kinda lonely sitting at home playing a game with no music. I hope one day he feels the need to add something for atmosphere.

Besides that, the game To the Moon is fantastic and I'm glad someone else has at least heard of it. Good luck finishing (I got the whole thing in a single sitting...damn nerd). Hope some other people give it a shot.

EDIT: Quick question, what 'Act' are you up to?

I know chris said that (it's written in my edit above =P)

I actually played the rest of the game yesterday a little time after writing about it in the post (damn nerdiness  ). Took an hour or so to reach the end.

Not sure about categorizing it as game, it's more like an interactive movie (in 2d rpg style), just saying in case people want xp, level ups, swords and other items or a battle screen ...

Well, if you count that bit near the beginning there is indeed a mock-rpg element to it. But truthfully, it could drop the pretense at game elements entirely and just be as good. Glad you finished.

How did you find the ending? I found it to be a little average compared to the rest of the game. I was a little disappointed that they broke the metaphor so completely and thought they could have done a lot more. Especially regarding the 'bunk-bed' and the origami. What were your thoughts?

Yeah, i don't consider that a battle screen, it's more of a joke
As you said, they should just drop the pretense, especially when you time slip, the puzzle games I found to be pretty lame considering the whole game.
The rest, i'm gonna send you in a pm just in case (there's no spoiler boutton here) ;)

But i did like the ending actually. I teared up when i found out why the game is called to the moon (i thought about the consequence and got watery eyes  )

Sent you a PM but its sitting in my outbox and not in the sent items box. I am not very forum savvy so let me know if you didn't receive it.

For the forum viewing audience (even though I said as much in the PM) I did love the story, don't mean to create misunderstanding. After-all I did recommend the game to everyone. But I just felt that in comparison to the rest of the game the last 5 minutes were less fulfilling than the first 5 hours. I can almost consider the game having ended earlier and I would be happy.

EDIT: Actually, I think I might play it again now. See if I can find things I missed on the first time through.

EDIT2: I may have figured out what the 2-tone origami means now. Still like to hear your opinion on it in PM.

The pm sits in your outbox until i read it (so you know if i already read it and if i'm ignoring you )
Yeah you can play it again, it will give a different understanding about some elements, bunnies and the rest...

I explained in the pm why I consider the ending just as good

Also i hope they make an episode 2 (they did hint at it in the end pretty strongly)
Maybe they made it already and i'm just being stupid here :?

After seeing this game on GOG.com three days ago, I bought it and recently just finished it. It was rather a rather good game. (Yeah I tend to procrastinate)

Also I do realize that I just raised this post from a four month old sleep. Its ok, if the zombied topic gets bloodthirsty we just use the fire.

It's fine. Zombie threads created by me are always good. I am surprised you went to all the effort of even bothering to find it in the first place instead of just making a new one.

If I made a new one, then I would have to insert a Mod post yelling at myself for topic clutter and duplicate topics. (It would not only be reverse progressive, I would also have to face my own wrath).

I read stuff in one forum that has rules against posting in any topic older than 10 days. New topics are the norm. Madness?

Lucky you guys don't have too much work here since the community is a pretty relaxed bunch.

The only valid reason I could see would be if the question was already answered ,if the topic was about outdated things (A topic asking if Kenshi Ver 0.12.1 is out yet) or if it leads to harassment (or cyber slap fights). Personally I think that it is better to dig up and add to an older post that is similar (Hey, some forgotten post could have the same idea as you) then to have 20 similar topics with scattered ideas.

Centralized topic = collection of similar ideas that Chris can compare and find easily.

Uncentralized topic = many repetitious topics in which if a good idea is posted, Chris would have to dig through many to find it.

Raising topics from the dead is fine by me, just don't let it attack the villagers.Personally, I like it lax.

This is a great forum and it is amazing as to how relaxed and easy going it is. It makes me wonder as to how project zomboid's forum turned out the way it did.

Never been to zomboids forum. What is so bad about it? I've heard it referenced a few times so it must have quite a reputation...

When I last visited (March - April-ish), many of the forum members acted out of hand, it even got to the point where some idiot told some thirteen year old to go kill them-self,(Kid didn't). Many of the posts had to be locked because of the out of control state and it seemed that the admins lacked a proper method to keeping order (I don't know how everything is now).

This information stated above is what I personally noticed during my time as a project zomboid forum goer.

Long story short, this post is not intended to be a stab at Project Zomboid, but rather to look at what happened in its forum and learn how to prevent such similar situations.

How the forum is now and what has changed I really cannot say. (Good game concept though)

Yea humans are curious animals, so they like to push a little further each time to test their limits in posting dumb stuff. That's why we mods need to use our mod hammer sometimes... it has nothing to do with our sadistic side.

Btw does anyone know anything about to the moon 2? Or any new game from the devs. I liked the story in this game, eventhough the game mechanics in itself were almost non-existant

Yeah the game was more like an interactive story, but still it was good.

As for a number II it seemed hinted at the end, but I am not sure.

I loved this game, kind of lost the plot towards to end, played through it again and loved it even more (and understood it). Tears were shed.
