Here's what I have so far:

The gate can be Locked by a single individual, which upon right-clicking anywheres else, he will start Unlocking the gate again.

Rapidly clicking to move the character will allow him to move away from the gate a tiny step with each click.

Once he has reached a distance that he is not able to Unlock the gate without having to move towards it, he will then move around the gate to the outside of it in order to Unlock it.

Any characters in the vicinity (in my case I had 2 engineers approximately 5 wall segments down performing Engineer Jobs) will also move to Unlock the gate before returning to their tasks.

EDIT: The only characters affected by this necessity to Unlock the gate are inside of the walled complex, the characters outside of the walls properly follow commands and perform Jobs.

Also note that this does not have to be a completely closed-in wall. This is happening to me while my wall is only 3/4 complete.

EDIT EDIT: Following the aforementioned information, the problem persists to affect characters that were inside the walled complex at the time of the gate's closure, even after they have exited the perimeter in order to unlock the gate.

However, once they begin to Unlock the gate, they are then able to function properly similar to the other characters outside the wall. Thus there is a workaround right here.

Another thing of note is that if any character that still functions properly is moved near the gate (the distance the original character was while closing the gate) will then function similar to those characters that were inside the wall at the time of the gate's closure.

i don't know if it has to do with this problem, but when my engineer was building the wall he was running from one side of the wall, through the gate, to the other side of the wall ... could it be that this is what your engineers do?

No, I have had this happen multiple times, its due to the fact that each individual wall segment has to be constructed from a specific point, and when walls have corners or slight angle to them, the engineers will be forced to construct the wall segments from both inside and outside the wall.

The easiest workaround to this is to build a wall ramp on the first wall segment you build, then position your Engineers on the completed wall, and they should be able to construct the rest of the wall from up there (given they have enough materials)

in my case its useless to build wall ramps, because the wall ramps are floating 20 metres in the air XD every single one isn't usable ... at first i didn't saw them and thought it's a bug, but a few hours later from another point of view i saw them in the sky ^^

This issue was fixed with the 0.46.0 patch. Are you running the most up-to-date version of the game?
Uninstall and re-install to fix that issue. Don't forget to move your save folder elsewhere before uninstalling.

Oh yeah, floating wall ramps. Still have that issue. I noticed that they fly way up on sand dunes.

So the floating wall ramps still occur with 0.46.0? Get a screenshot of the issue and where on the map it is happening, I want to try to reproduce it in my game.

That's really interesting to see, as I no longer have this issue anywheres on the map.

Are you really, REALLY sure you're on the latest build of Kenshi? xD

Might just be leftover files in your save game. Maybe try building a wall elsewhere and see if the ramp also appears high in the air?

I started building ramps in .46 xD it's .46.1 and I haven't actually built a ramp yet because I moved to a flat section on the south of the map. Did you dry building them on the slope of a dune? That's where it happened for me

I've built ramps on flat surfaces, slops of big hills, atop cliffs, as well as on previously impassable terrain (just so long as the bottom of the ramp hits passable terrain), and I have never encountered a floating ramp in 0.46.1.

However, I have not built on rolling sand dunes specifically, nor inside of NPC towns (if that's possible)

You can once you buy a house in a town.
i built research stations inside NPC towns before and had to build power generators and windmills outside the building i bought to power them up.

It took me a while to figure this out. My problem is that the guy STILL wants to climb down and work on the wall FROM the outside, so i have to micromanage him. Now i now how my old bosses used to feel....

But man is it worth it. as long as you have someone to repair the gate, enemies WILL NOT GET IN!
