More News

Here is the latest news on the upcoming update, and what we are currently doing:

  • Sam is finishing up with the part of the pathfinding system that deals with gates and walls and storing the appropriate information that enables the AI to know things like “the guys I want to attack is locked inside those town walls, so I have to bash the gate down first”.
  • Once that is done, we’ll need to spend some time testing it and ironing out the smaller bugs and crashes that show themselves.
  • While I wait, I’m working on the code for creature “nests”, basically points of congregation and birth of animals that handle population balance and make things a lot more interesting than if they just spawned randomly scattered around the map.
  • Mike has fixed item-dropping, and now you can press the Alt key to show dropped item labels on the screen like you do in diablo-type RPGs.
  • Also we can now spawn items in buildings, so probably not in the upcoming update but shortly after you’ll be able to sneak into buildings and steal stuff.
  • I have done a rare thing and accepted a volunteer into the team, Alex Z is helping with the dialogue writing, and is currently getting to grips with the complicated dialogue system and what I want content-wise.
  • Olly made a whole towns worth of new buildings.
  • 7 different animals are now in, some are still waiting for attack animations that we have got a freelancer working on.

The upcoming update is going to be huge, the biggest update since Kenshi’s release.

It’s also probably going to be buggy as hell, due to the huge amount of new systems and features we’ve added while going months without player bug-reports. So probably the first 2 weeks after release will be rough and buggy and so I’ll probably be releasing several patches a week during that time until it stabilises again.

Thanks for all your patience so far, I know it’s been the longest time ever without a new game update, but you’ll get the best update ever in return.
